Knows it's impossible, asks for it anyway. Not really sure if this was intended seriously or as a cute jab at PS4 limitations. The DX11 stuff works on PC because the hardware is designed for it, so it's not merely unlikely, but simply not possible to replicate on PS4. To do so would probably require them to remake the entire graphics engine.
DirectX is a Microsoft exclusive API for Windows OS. Some similar features from the DX11 will be implemented to PS4 later as it has been confirmed already but do not expect full DX11 as this is imposible. #PCMasterRace
Can't remember where I read it, maybe that last live letter, but it was said they are working on adding the dx11 features to the ps4 version. Just because ps4 doesn't use dx11 doesn't mean they can't improve the lighting and water and add tesselation.
Edit: found it. This was in the last live letter.

Q70. Do you have any plans to improve the graphical quality of PS4?*
A70. We’re thinking about gradually implementing code related to the DirectX 11 improvements onto PS4 as we keep an eye on stability
While do people come out and argue against OP ideas when they can read just like Ulathskullsplitter and see it was already discussed as something they are working on? OP asked something to be done about ps4 graphics to make it comparable to dx11. Ok so ps4 does not have it but the idea behind making the ps4 do some of the same things is still sound. Can be done. Is being discussed to be done. If anything you could just told the OP to read the last live letter but that is all i can see to come out about. Please people. TY Ulathskullsplitter for linking that comment from last letter.

The PS4 has roughly the same hardware as a mid-range gaming PC - without the overhead of highly abstract APIs like DX and OpenGL; that's why consoles can get away with weak CPUs, their graphics APIs aren't CPU intensive. (Mantle is a step close to console-like low overhead APIs but it will probably never be as efficient.)
Seriously, have you seen games like Infamous: Second Son?

and that is an early game before developers get to know the hardware inside out.
PS4 is BSD-based Operating System, while DirectX is Microsoft Proprietary.
For the PS4, Sony introduced GNM and GNMX and also their custom shading language, PlayStation Shader Language (PSSL).
