GSM Noob looking for some help!

Hello all! I just hit 60 on my GSM. i72. I'm trying to figure out the best rotations to give me the highest chance to craft high qualities or collectables. As of now my rotation is:

Inner Quiet > Steady Hand > Great Strides > Advanced Touch > Great Strides > Advanced Touch > etc.

I pop the Byregot's Brow and Precise Touch proc as often as it allows (only in good or better condition). I feel as if it's pretty basic.

Granted I haven't grasped the new moves, am I missing something? Anything that would help my HQ chance rate?

Despite SE's efforts, you cannot thrive as a crafter without the skills of all the crafting classes.

Your only other class is Culinary, at level 15, based on your Lodestone profile. That means you have everything a GSM has to work with and .. Hasty Touch.

Culinary to 37 for Steady Hand 2 is highly recommended.
Carpenter to 50 for Rumination (meh) and Byregot's Blessing is highly recommended.
Alchemy to 50 for Tricks of the Trade and Comfort Zone is highly recommended.
Weaver to 50 for Careful Synthesis 2 is recommended.
Blacksmith to 50 for Ingenuity 2 is recommended, at least for those crafts that are at or above your level.
Leatherworker to 15 for Waste Not is recommended. ITs not needed on the 70 and 80 Durability recipes, but it is incredible (I combine it with Manipulation, which you already have) on the 35 and 40 Durability recipes.
Armorer to 50 for Rapid synthesis and Piece by Piece is recommended.

With *just* the skills you have as a 15 CUL and 60 GSM, you are going to be heavily reliant upon HQ materials for a shot at HQ results.

The standard pattern, by the way, is to get yourself to one or two Synth moves from completion, then do whatever it takes to get as much Quality as possible added to the item. Some people prefer to use a Synthesis move as a "fishing" move for a Good/Excellent for their Byregot's, if that's your thing then go for it, otherwise, get yourself to one Synthesis move away from completion, add your Quality, and finish. With only Byregot's Brow, you are rather stuck searching for a Good/Excellent to use it on.

Start off with Inner Quiet. Get your Progress added so you are one or two Synthesis moves from completion. Use Steady Hand (ideally, SH2, once you get it) to boost the success rate of Hasty Touch, and use Hasty Touch on Normal (and Poor) conditions. You will have to do the math on your own, how many CP you need to save for whatever Finisher you can produce. CP in excess of that has three purposes : Durability games, and Precise Touch. You want to use Precise Touch early if at all possible (and repeatedly).

The third use is Basic Touch. Here, you want to go backward. If you have enough CP for three Basic/Precise Touch moves, and enough Durability for 5 moves before your Finisher/Synthesis, you want to use two Hasty Touches followed by three Basic Touches. However, those Basic Touches get converted (and potentially moved up, pushing the hasty Touches down) to Precise Touch if you get a Good or Excellent early on.

Here's what I mean :
Normal : Hasty
Normal : Hasty
Normal : Basic
Normal : Basic
Good : Precise

Now, if a Good comes early :
Normal : Hasty
Good : Precise
Normal : Hasty
Normal : Basic
Normal : Basic

Now, that comes from being able to do the math, and having enough CP to actually do those moves. If you lack the gear, you are not going to be doing that, you will be stuck doing Hasty Touches covered by Steady Hand, saving the CP for Durability games.

I checked your lodestone, if you dont have plan to lv up other crafting for the x-class skills nor buy the HQ ilv150 gears your best bet is start with HQ mats (this will put you very close to the min collactbility required for turn in) and use your specialist skills, I haven't played that way so I don't know what the principle of the rotation in that skill set will be. But general rule of thumb is (Great Strides > Advanced Touch) is a very bad deal on CP cost, people only use it on macro crafting 35/40 dura when they out gear the recipts. you want to build more Inner stacks with less CP cost (in your case basic/precious touch). Note: this is advice for collectable turn in only, if you want to HQ any high lv recipt at a reasonable chance this is not good enough for the moment.

Level every other craft to 15.

That will give you useful cross class skills.

Quantity is better than quality when it comes to touches. You should think of touches not as a way to build up quality, but as a way to build up stacks of Inner Quiet. When your Inner Quiet value is high, your Byrgot's Brow will become PHENOMINALLY powerful. With your Inner Quiet value high, Great Strides active, and on a Good condition, a single use of Byergot's Brow will finish two thirds or more of a synth's quality bar, all by itself.

With your current skillset, I'd recommend keeping Steady Hand up and spamming Hasty Touch, sprinkling in Precise Touch when you can. The fact that Hasty Touch is free means that you save a ton of CP, which you can then spend on Manipulation or Master's Mend to reclaim the durability you lose when Hasty Touch fails. Make it your goal to reach at least 8 (preferably more) stacks of Inner Quiet - that's seven or more successful touches, discounting the bonus from Precise Touches. With your Inner Quiet at 8 or more, hit Great Strides, and then delay as best you can (Observation works well, as does Innovation; Basic Synthesis, too, if doing so won't accidentally finish your synth prematurely) until a Good or Excellent condition appears. Then, Byregot's Brow.

Folks have mentioned Byergot's Blessing - this skill is like Byregot's Brow, but even better. At high stacks, it's more powerful, and it isn't limited to use on Good or Excellent. This is why most crafters will recommend you get CRP to 50 for this ability. If that simply sounds like too much work, that's your choice to make, but understand that for higher crafts you'll only ever have a decent shot at HQ when you manage to land a Byregot's Brow finisher. It was once the case that Byregot's Blessing was REQUIRED for any endgame crafter. The addition of Byergot's Brow and Byregot's Miracle have provided workable alternatives to Byregot's Blessing, but Blessing is still king.

Whether or not you do get Byregot's Blessing, take Shady's advice and level every craft to 15 for their cross-class skills. Almost all of them are tremendously useful, and leveling a craft to 15 is quick and easy (about an hour or two of work, during which you barely even have to leave the craft's guild headquarters). Additionally, if you can find it in you to level CUL to 37, you'll wonder how you ever lived without Steady Hand II.

I have all crafting classes at 60, except 1 (Armorer). To thrive with relative ease, you pretty much need to level all the crafting classes and earn the best abilities from them. Not all are useful ALL the time, but most are useful MOST of the time.

I don't really have any trouble at all doing HQ level 60 stuff, nor max-collectibles, even with all NQ materials. Up-to-par gear is really necessary, with melds, and some food helps too (but not required).

I've had people tell me they don't understand how to do collectibles. Really, if you know how to make something HQ you can do collectibles: it's the same process and skill rotation for both. And collectibles are a little easier, as you don't really have to max them out to get the highest scrip award, like you would always try to do with HQ to guarantee a HQ synth.

Two skills everyone should get very comfortable using: Hasty Touch and Rapid Synthesis. Don't ever be afraid to use them...just use them at the right times.
