Transitioning from 50 to 60 with poor gear and GP.

Hey guys, first time poster here. I have two quick questions.

1 - Should I buy level 50 gear and meld materia for GP into it or wait for the higher level stuff and meld materia into that? I am currently level 58 Botanist and I leveled up the hard way, but I don't wanna have to go through this with my Miner (currently level 20ish). My GP is roughly 420 and I have the level 55 NQ gear with my botanist, so my stats aren't so great.

2 - I only bought my HQ Botanist level 50 gear non-melded, which is why I was able to get to 55 without a problem. I never did the forager's set. The issue now lies that my Fishing class (currently level 50) has 0% probability of catching fish. I'm just getting like level 35 catches from the newer spots. What can I do to solve this? Should I buy HQ Fisher gear until level 55, then switch what I am currently using with my Botanist?

You can buy relatively good gear from NPCs for gatherers, check out moghome when you hit lvl 54? No gear atm should warrant you melding material into it just yet. Hell, even foragers gear fully melded is useless at lvl 53. I would spend a little bit of gil on the main hand, the off hand can be gotten through job quests. Then, blue scrips can be gotten for lvl 58 gear, I'm sure red scrips will net you the BiS. So, for now, I suggest just npcing your gear until scrips.

Thanks for your response, Jican. That's what I did with my Botanist. I bought Level 53 tool, strayed off market since everything was selling for like 200K NQ, and once I got to Lv 55, I bought the gear off the moghome for 15K each piece. So just disregard the lack of GP? My biggest concern is also fishing, but I think Imma just go back to Cloudfishing till 55

420 GP... yeah, that's a toughie. You want to get to 600, either unboosted, or boosted with cheap food... But the melds you'd do to your current gear would go obsolete so fast you'd really regret spending the gil - unless materia and the Dodore gear is dirt cheap on Zalera.

I fish, but I'm very casual about it so I have no advice there.

I think the "hard way" will be boring but strategically better for you.

That's what I've been doing with the foods. Thanks for your response, I followed your advice and just leveled up the hardway. I bought HQ Fisher gear (spent 300K total) and I'm almost 53. Spend gil to make gil I guess :P. GP is a pain.

I will call BS on this.

Fully melded (but not optimally on the off hand) 2.55 BIS gives me 492 gathering, 468 perception, and 633 GPs without food.

From what I see at L53 this should be good till L55.

Exactly right. That's what I did. I bought lv 53 gear, then lv 55 gear and my stats are still lower than 492 and 468. Pretty close though, and all gear is non-melded and NQ.

Thanks for the responses everybody, I have been able to level up pretty decently. All I need now is a way to get more GP.
