blue cloud coral help

hi, i cant seem to catch this item for crafting. i've been using red balloon bait at cloudtop, no luck, in cloudy/fair/clear weather. i have 412 gathering n 350 perception. what am i doing wrong?

Make sure you have Snagging turned on.

No, snagging is also required to catch "fish" you would normally expect to be hard to pull up, like corals and some shellfish.

Is there any time where you would want snagging to be Off?

I thought it was just for maps, but I'd kept it on mainly for gits and shiggles. I know that the two GP hook abilities work for some fish and not for others, so are there any fish where snagging on makes them harder to catch?

snagging worked perfectly! turned it on n caught 8 corals :) i feel silly now for forgetting about it lol

I don't believe it directly impacts your success rate on any fish. That said, I can think of two times:
1. You don't want the map from a given fishing hole. EG you're fishing somewhere that might pull up a Boarskin map; screw that, save your map gather for a Dragonskin!
2. You don't want the fish that are added via Snagging. It's like using lower level bait - turning off Snagging can reduce the number of possible fish any given cast can pull, increasing the chances of getting the other fish.
