Why can't we convert green dungeon drops to materia?

Always seemed odd. Have they ever given any reasoning for this?

Because you're supposed to surrender them to your GC for seals instead.

Lore-wise, I have no idea.

IIRC something about giving crafted items a use or something. Not sure about how they view it now though.

Because they aren't craftable. You can't make green drops, they just drop from chest. If one could turn those drops into materia it would completely destroy the crafting market of gear because rather than buying gear to spiritbond into materia, players would just obtain gear through dungeons and spiritbond those because it would be cheaper to just get loot through dungeons that you could turn into materia then it would be to buy or craft your own.

But you can convert Pink items - all the aetherial gear drops from the lower dungeons.

Actually, come to think of it, all the new accessories and weapons in the new dungeons are green, not pink. Probably for that reason.

So that you won't freak out like me when your high level gear turns into grade II materia. Seriously? All my ilevel 145 stuff is turning into garbage! What IS this?
