Placebo effect. Doesn't work when there's a thousand people in queue, only less than a hundred, and odds are you'd have gotten in anyway in about 15 seconds.
I just wait my turn. If the data center is not having known issues, it's not that bad.
I've waited before, even when only 15 people in the queue, and I've never gotten in that way. Not sure if you even can.
I beat the queue the old fashioned way. I log in and don't stop playing until I wake up with keyboard face.
It doesn't skip it. What it does is refresh it.
When there's a long enough queue, you'll notice every 15 seconds or so the little box that tells you where you are will click, and reload up to a new number. If you cancel and reselect the same character the same thing will happen. On short queues you often get through the queue faster than the automatic refresh, so canceling and reselecting--forcing a manual refresh--will get you in faster. That's all it is.
Considering the low amount of time it saves you, I don't really think it's worth the two clicks when I can just tab out and do something else for a minute and come back to already be loaded into game, though.
