Returning player need help please. Have a few questions.

Good Afternoon everyone,

I recently came back to the game. I'm not max level yet or anything. I felt like a rogue RIN would be a fun pick to level and PvP.
Anyways last night I took some time setting up my UI. Removing error messages during combat and rolling text to make my screen more clean.
But I wanted to know a few more things about the game.
Is there PvP gear obtained through PvP only?
Addons?
Cast abilities at focus target?
Any sort of special macros. Mouse over and what not if it does exist.
I've also seen some PvP videos where melee characters have it so their player is always facing at their target and locked. Is that really the best way and advantage to get all damage off?
I think that's about all my questions. Anything else you feel like adding to let me know please do. And thank you :)
Also I noticed my character has the option to edit the character and change it? Is that like a 1 time ever thing or how does that work? Does it just appear every so often.

Yes, there are three sets: ilvl70 is a re-skin of crafted gear, as well as ilvl90 ones. They have minor color and material tweaks to them, but overall design is the exact same. However, ilvl100 and ilvl110 sets are completely unique for each class, each having their own signature animal themed armor set that you can only acquire through PvP. 110 version has some extra additions and parts to them compared to their earlier 100 versions, and different colors. All sets are dyeable though. Also, 110 weapons have a red glow and particle effect to them, kind of like the weapon would be bleeding.

No addons are supported by SE, so nope. Only one that is kind of looked away from is ACT (dmg parser).

You can macro your abilities to have them cast primarily on your target, but if your target is not an enemy and your target's target is, the spell will be cast on them. But no focus target macro as far as I know.

As I mentioned earlier, the game has built-in macro system that has quite a large variety of different commands you can write down for abilities etc. Each command can be found ingame as well as various guides on the intarwebs.

That's the game's lock-on target. As it stands, EU servers have quite a bit of server lag/delay (they're located in Canada atm, they're building them in France at this very moment) so lock-on kind of helps with that. Hit detection is bad in PvP so always facing your target with the lock-on sort of guarantees your hits going through, although you can very well play without it like I do.

You probably had used a Fantasia potion (let's you redo your character from scratch) before you left the game or something. Yes, it's a one time thing. Once you edit and accept the changes it's gone.

One thing I'd like to add re: the question about PVP gear: while there are the sets referenced above which are obtainable only via Wolfmarks earned from PVP matches, this gear isn't required to participate in PVP and in most PVP modes doesn't provide a distinct competitive advantage over PVE gear. The exception to that right now is unsynched Wolf's Den which I wouldn't recommend for someone starting out.

Frontlines PVP is currently synched at i80, and the main thing you would want is for all your gear and accessories to be AT OR ABOVE the i80 synch, with the stats on your accessories having either its main stat relevant to your role, or with VIT as main stat and useful substats like Crit/Det). Minimize accuracy and parry on gear as much as possible as its pretty much useless.

There's a lot more that can be said about optimizing your gear for different PVP modes but main thing I want to convey is- not having PVP gear yet, isn't a barrier to being able to start playing; as long as you have PVE-acquired gear where all pieces are at/above the level synch and are appropriate for your class, you should be able to play in any of the level-synched modes.

Thanks all for the replies. Also about that ilvl 80 cap in that pvp zone. Ilvl 80 doesn't seem like a lot. I saw a gray level 60 dagger I purchased on the AH for 10000 and it was ilvl 145 or something like that.

Before Heavensward came along, the level cap was 50 and the max item level on gear was 130. When Frontlines was initially released, the max item level on gear was 110. It "seems" low because the game mode is still tweaked as if people were 50. You can now go beyond that with the new expansion, since the ilvl cap has risen quite a lot.
Wait till the new FL which is tweaked for lvl60.

i80 was what the cap was for frontlines when level 50 was the max level. Those frontlines modes (slaughter and secure) are still capped at level 50, so they are still i80 sync'ed. The new frontlines is coming out in 3 weeks and should be level 60 capped. My best guess is it will be something like a i150 sync (which is the lowest ilvl I've seen on level 60 gear).

That's probably about right. When Frontlines first came out, i80 was run of the mill level for PvE, no? So I can see this being the case for the new 60 Frontlines.
