Heavensward OS X launcher not launching

Hi, I downloaded the OS X client image, copied the app to my applications folder, and when I double click the icon it runs the usual "verify" and then...nothing. When I look at my activity monitor it appears to have some process running but nothing happens. I even let it sit over night just to see what happens and had nothing.

I wish there was more to it than that but there isn't :(. If my tech specs help, I'm running OS X Version 10.10.4, 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 16gb memory, and Intel Iris graphics.

Any and all assistance would be immensely appreciated :)

I had the same problem. Upon looking in Console.app, it turned out the process responsible for verifying the app had actually crashed. That obviously shouldn't happen, and it seems like an OS X bug.

To work around this, open up Terminal.app (in /Applications/Utilities) and type the following:

xattr -d -r com.apple.quarantine /Applications/FINAL\ FANTASY\ XIV.app

(this assumes that you've installed FINAL FANTASY XIV.app into your root /Applications directory)

After typing that, hit return. When it finishes running, you should now be able to launch FINAL FANTASY XIV.app. What this command is doing is removing the information that tells the system that it needs to verify the application before running.

Before launching, you may want to open up Activity Monitor.app (again in /Applications/Utilities), search for FINAL FANTASY XIV, and if you find it in the list, select it and hit the (X) toolbar button and select Quit. This is because the verification process that crashed will most likely have left behind the frozen process.

Thanks Eridius! I actually figured out that it was due to the default OS X security setting for downloading and installing applications. It was initially set to only allow Apple and Apple supported applications, I had to change it to allow any application to be installed. (For those that don't know go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General).

I'm wondering if your solution is related to this security issue as well? Either way having these two solutions should hopefully help anybody else that may run into it :)

You really should not leave that setting as you have changed it! You eliminate a very important security feature from the OS that helps prevent most illegitimate software from running. Now that you've run FFXIV with it off, you should be able to turn it back on without issues.

For future reference: if that happens to you again, just right click on the app itself and choose open. You will have the option to open that single app without changing the settings on system preferences.

Just want to clarify, Eridius comment will disable Gatekeeper for just the FFXIV app, not the entire system.
