Unable to proceed with plot, text interface for Quest AN INDESPENSABLE ALLY is blank

On arriving in the area of Roseguard, I was able to see the text and complete the first quest. The NPC text boxes are blank after that. The normal dialog boxes (yellow) are blank, but I can click past them.

The third dialog box on the step of "Speak with Matoya." in that quest, however, is a dark gray box. I am unable to interact with it in any way, beyond dragging it around the screen. Having looked at a friend's interface, mine is not even the right size and shape. The cursor does not change no matter where I hover over the box, except for at the top when it allows me to drag the interface.

(EDIT) this is not my current main character. I was unable to select my current main character in order to set up a forum account.

I was able to complete all of the rest of the main story plot in the other area reached by the Chocobo Stable branch of the main plot.

This is the only dialog I am unable to read, although I have seen other dialogs with Japanese titles and/or that did not fit correctly in the pane.

Same problem, all NPC's in that area have the same blank text box as well. Completely stuck with the main story until this is fixed :(

I am experiencing the same bug as well. I cannot reply back to the NPC in question due to the absence of any dialogue options, or any dialogue whatsoever. Progression for me is effectively blocked. Please help!

I was on a Windows machine. The bug was no different whether I ran on Direct X 9 or 11.

Im having the exact same problem.

It's not much of a bugfix, but I was able to get the dialogue boxes working by a complete re-installation of the game. Hope this helps, guys!

Anyone found a better fix than one that takes like 2 hours?

Same problem here. One one hand, I'm not willing to take the time for an entire re-installation of the game.....on the other, I want to play the dang story line.

Go to your launcher, and set your client to japanese and log in and talk to him. He will have dialogue now, then change it back to english after.
