Fishing and the 'nothing bites'

I think the whole 'pull your rod out of the water and look to see that obviously nothing hit then recast, which takes a good 10 seconds to do' needs to go away. If nothing bites, leave the lure in the water until something does bite, or nibble. Perhaps after 3 or so 'Nothing bites' in a row, then pull the lure out of the water, check it, recast.

I'd almost rather the action would say "this bites", when we get nothing for 3 or more tries!
