My son is coming back to the game and he has a small personal house. However. he wants to do a character name change. Will this affect or cause any problems with the house. I know a world transfer would, but this is just a name change.

I don't think so no. I think only the name of who owns it on the placard will change but there should be any changes beyond that.
Won't cause any issue. My in game wife changed their name and the house was in tact after.
