All the stuff I googled on it seemed to indicate this means PSN maintenance, but there's none going on and PSN is up. All the game's servers are up. I don't know what the problem is, I don't think anything even updated.

Me and my girlfriend are getting the same exact thing on PS4. We rebooted our PS4, it didn't help. Anything else you did to connect or did you simply just went in?
I'm getting the same error too. PSN also shows "undergoing maintenance". You may want to post notice on the website.

Strangely enough, we can play together on Borderlands. I guess we'll play that for now xD
It's pretty weird. PSN looked perfectly normal, I could see my friends on and message them, but not run FFXIV. I tried about ten times and then it just worked, though now I can't send messages or friend requests. If you keep trying it'll hopefully work for you guys too.
Can confirm. Keep trying and you'll eventually get in. Doesn't take that long
