Hi! The new expansion (Heavensward, aka 3.0) is just around the corner, but to actually enter the new expansion areas or try out the three new jobs, you have to finish the "A Realm Reborn" Main Story Quest. Just getting a class to level 50 and finishing the primary storyline (ending with the quest "The Ultimate Weapon") isn't enough, you need to also finish all of the follow-up content (ending with the quest "Before the Dawn"). If you focus on it, it doesn't take as long as it seems, but there are a few stumbling blocks along the way, namely all of the required dungeons/trials and the potentially long queue times for them.
I would like to offer assistance to new players who have not yet finished the story, especially ones who are having trouble getting into required dungeons and trials. I really like helping people, so please feel free to ask. I'm also happy to offer advice on DPS rotations, gear/stat choices, what order to level crafting classes in, the best way to level up fast (the main story quests on their own aren't quite enough), and so on.

Also, if you're a new player reading this topic, here is a link to a guide that lists all progression-locked features of FFXIV and how to unlock each (or when they unlock). There are several important, but easily missed features, like the Challenge Log (gives bonus exp, gil, GC seals, and so on each week for doing things you'll do anyway, like running dungeons and giving out commendations), the ability to have your chocobo fight with you, and the ability to equip your retainers and send them out on quests.

Yep :( I have the same problem with people in our FC not using the FC forums, either :( One thought is you could always post a PF group for this stuff -- it would be a welcome change to see a helpful PF post instead of the usual "farm this or that... selling XYZ... etc." :)
