A question about healing.

Yesterday I was running AK HM and at the first boss the tank derped and ended up with six debuff stacks. Well, it ended getting him killed because I couldn't keep up with heals. Then, for some ungodly reason, he respawned without waiting to get a rezz. The boss then started attacking one of the DPS guys and he completely ignored mechanics too and got the debuff for the reason, "I thought healers just healed the tank"... :l
Thankfully we didn't wipe but my question is do a majority of you just give up and never throw out heals after the tank dies/respawns or focus on tanks 100% withoit tossing small cures/regen to the little guys? Just asking because I have no idea where he came up with the idea that DPS don't get heals too.

Well, none of the dungeon bosses really require a tank if the party is well geared :P If you feel like putting some more effort in it, keep going. With or without tank.

I've done small pulls while waiting for a tank with the DPS, I don't mind that.
Extra work on my part doesn't bother me, I just couldn't believe someone would just give up because they thought only the tanks got heals.

Always try to salvage. Being able to assess and recover separates pro healers from the ones just scraping by.

If the tank dies, it's not always a lost cause. Many bosses can be evasive tanked by a DPS and especially ones with defensive cool downs. I was just helping a T5 clear the other day and the solo PLD somehow died during the twister phase. As BLM I naturally got the hate next with the damage I was going, but having mitigation spells like manawall kept Twintania from ripping my face off until the PLD was raised, stabilized, and can provoke the hate.

Yep! Sometimes we do four healer queues for hard dungeons. Who tanks? Whoever has most aggro lol. Who's healing? Fairies.

Well, it's not really the OP who gave up. It's the rest of the party - Who apparently thought healers don't heal anyone but the tank.

I never stop healing, even when the tank dies. A good healer can turn almost any DPS, or another healer, into a pseudo-tank. I've salvaged big pulls when a DPS and the tank died by healing myself and the other DPS until they respawned and ran back to us.

i don't give up. in bray hm the tank had a dc and never came back. wow, the endboss can make damage on these DDs xD but worked well until the DD used blood for blood :x killed him in the second try xD

I don't give up, usually now I can immediately swiftcast+resurrect the tank unless something went wrong.

If a DPS told me "the healer only heals the tank" I would whack them. I heal whoever is dying. The reverse goes too, if the tank died and I was DPSing and so aggro suddenly all came to me and I died, and the healer told me "the healer only heals the tank" then I'd be pretty mad.

It sounds like you got paired with some really bad players. I swear, it drives me crazy when someone returns mid fight, or takes it upon themselves to call wipe and wall it. They must have never seen a good healer recover before.

I don't give up. I'll start healing whatever dps ends up with hate, and if they die, I'll even try to down it. I've soloed the last 25-50% of several bosses.
