Heavensward question about weapons

Is the class weapon being upgraded in Heavensward or being replaced by drops that will be better than the Zeta?

That will determine how much more grinding I will do on it. About to hit the Alexandrite farming stage.

Current top end weapons will be good to about level 55 apparently. It's a total waste of time grinding a Zeta at this point, especially now the poetics cap has doubled and you can get an easy 130 weapon in two weeks.

The Zeta will be decent gear until you're somewhere into the mid-50s and it will give you some kind of benefit in heavensward. No one really knows what that'll be.

The heavensward relics will start up in 3.1. You won't need a Zeta finished in order to begin it.

It's most likely going to be replaced, but it will serve you for a while in 3.0. We don't know how long the leveling process from 50-60 is going to take, so who's to say how long that will actually be. If you're only concerned about ilvl, you can get a poetic weapon as Jimbo suggested. If you want to grind to keep yourself busy, have at it, though perhaps don't invest too much gil in your sphere scroll. I'm working on a WHM relic, only at animus books, while gathering poetics to get a weapon for another class.

If new jobs don't get poetic weapons I'll just grab it on my NIN lol

In the benchmark at a moment appears a lala with a twohanded-ironworks-looking-sword. So I would recommend saving some points just in case.

Has it been confirmed how far you need to have progressed?

2.0 relics and 3.0 relics are completely separate, in the sense that you can start a 3.0 relic without ever having touched the 2.0 relic.

So we can start the new relic without having done the previous one at all?

yes they just start in 3.1
