Discussion on the Meta in 3.0

So, it's still early, but I think we have enough information to know the general direction SE and Yoshi-P are taking us with the 3.0 party meta and game meta. The addition of a 3rd tank and healer aside, there are several changes to gameplay mechanics for all classes too.

The Current Meta
The party meta for those who don't know, is the theory that says which composition of 8 classes give you the best chance to successfully complete a Coil run or Trial. The current meta suggests 2 tanks (warrior and paladin), 2 healers (scholar and white mage), and 4 dps (ninja, monk, blackmage, bard). This meta exists because of the synergy between classes and to maximize the bonus damage/health/defense gained from the current Limitbreaks with a diverse party.

The New Meta
Content will still be limited to 8-man content, but the addition of new classes means the Meta has to accomodate combinations of tanks and healers that include the Dark Knight and Astrologian too.

The 8-man group I'm looking forward to the most right now is Dark Knight, Warrior for tanks. Scholar and Astrologian for healing (Depending entirely on what AST brings to the table, may switch back to White Mage). Dragoon, Ninja, Black Mage and Bard for DPS.

I honestly don't see the point of a Machinist if the only buffs they bring are TP and MP Regen, we already have Bard who has them and Foe Requiem, and AST brings them as well.

While it's true we have Bard, bard has a few diminishing returns when it comes to songs and dps Machinist might be a different in that.
