Recruit A Friend Technical Question

So I am planning to get my friend to join, but I am concerned that if I do things in the wrong order we won't get the benefits from it. I wanted to buy him the game as a surprise rather than just sending him the recruitment code, however I am concerned that if he just registers the new account and begins a full access account he won't be able to use a recruitment code that I send him.

So do I have to send him the recruitment code first and have him make the account, apply the code, THEN apply the Steam code (How do you register a Steam copy anyway?)?

He can still use the friend code, so you and he will still get the benefits. I've done this for an existing account myself and both of us got the benefits.

I have no idea about Steam.... I prefer just using a regular account.

Then I guess my question is when can you use the recruiter code? During their free trial as well as during their free month (if they just purchase the game rather than trial)?

These three things have to be in this order for the Friend Recruitment to work:

First: Register the game purchase, creating a full access account (or upgrading a Free Trial to a full access account).

Second: Apply your Friend Recruitment Code to that account.

Third: Add subscription time to the account. (Typically this occurs 30 days after the first step above, since registering the game grants 30 days of access before a subscription fee is due.)

As far as I know, it should work either way. The subscriber days don't count unrl after the free period is over anyway.

If you buy a new copy of the game, that come with 30 free days. The 14 day trial, you'd still have to buy the game at the end and get the 30 days free.

I honestly don't know if you can use the recruitment code on the 14 day accounts. I don't see why not... But I've not used the 14-day one before.

I recently started with trial, upgraded to paid account. Added friend code after my free month ended and it made me go to Mog Station and set up a subscription.
