I wish Fishing was a minigame

There's something oddly relaxing about fishing, and it's wonderful no longer fearing your pole breaking >.> But I really wish the profession wasn't a two button wonder. Cast, wait, reel..

I wish there was more too it. I love how crafting and gathering are their own classes in FFXIV, I've always thought that was a great idea. But if they are their own classes you'd think that'd mean they all had engaging mechanics and some depth to them. In this regard the gathering professions actually seem really lack luster, even mining and fishing are basically "click an option on a list", but at least they have something to them.


I don't need something overly complicated, just something to engage me beyond "Cast > Reel > Cast > Reel > Cast > Reel"

Maybe make it similar to the crafting professions. Give us a few abilities and have us have to use them in right orders to catch fish. Smaller fish may need one combination, larger another etc. There's a lot of untapped potential in this job.

No thanks. This would inhibit my ability to watch Netflix while fishing. Fishing by vibration ftw!

If a game is so boring you need to watch Netflix to pass the time, something is seriously wrong with that game.

sounds too logical, cant be true :p

in 1.0 gathering used to be a minigame, which required some timing/reflexes
but there seems to be no space for things which require brain on the casual train

lol, casual train... fishing is one of the biggest time-sink and grindy things in game.

and because it is so grind-heavy i'm absoulte fine with the fact i don't need my brain for it. i like fishing how it is :O

I'm not talking about fishing at all, mining + botany used to be minigames too, which made botting quite impossible

For a mini-game to happen, the entire system would have to be thrown out. You're actually not just sitting there pusing buttons and watching Netflix if you're at fishing endgame. This means 50 FSH already, working on or owning a Lucis rod, full melded HQ foragers and accessories, and a few big fish under your belt. Catching them all is seriously hardcore (like start today and play all day, every day and you probably won't get the ironworks rod achievement til mid summer hardcore) and involves watching that clock like crazy, running from fishing hole to fishing hole, making sure you have the right bait, etc. Throwing a "timing mini-game" into the mix where you finally get that 10 minute buff, the right weather, the right time, only to fat finger and lose a double mooch would infuriate the best of us.

I remember that, having to time your stroke to the pulsating indicator...it was kinda fun.

Fishing was FAR more involved in 1.xx.

Fishing is way more rewarding now.

Why can't we have both?
