Trial account communication limitations

Hey!
I'm currently on a Trial account and I did a dungeon run with someone who was very nice and helpful. He whispered me afterwards and it seems I can't reply even though he whispered me first. I then tried adding him to my friends list, he accepted but I still can't seem to say anything.

Is there any way around the limitations that lets me talk to him?

Buy the game... that's it unfortunately.. you can try to send some mail to him (talk to a delivery moogle), but the /tell restriction is only lifted if you purchase the game.

That's inconvenient, seems a bit restrictive to not let people respond. My plan was to buy the game but I don't think I can do so for a bit over a week, I just didn't want to come across as a bitch for not answering.

IDK, anytime my tells go unanswered I just think the person is busy or new; you should be fine :)

It is. The restrictions on Trial accounts exist to prevent bots and spammers from abusing their existance, but it does sort of suck as an actual player sometimes.
