Account repeatedly being locked for "suspicious activity" ?

Nearly every time I log in to this game I get a message saying my account has been locked for "suspicious activity" and that I need to use an email link to change password.

Is someone actually trying to hack me or is this just an overzealous security feature? As far as I can tell I have never lost any items or anything, it is getting extremely annoying...

I get that if I reset my internet. Different IP address or something and shows that message. Also get it if using othee pc to sign on.

I have been using the same computer and internet connection the whole time, unless it is because I am using a wireless connection? I'm not sure if that would cause it to lock the account or not.

Overzealous security feature, if you try logging in from a different location. If you get it even when you log in from the same device, then it sounds like something else is the matter. Being forced to change your password every time you try to log in from, say, your laptop as opposed to your usual desktop, is annoying, but normal.

Does it happen even if you log in to FFXIV, log out, and log in back again? Because it shouldn't. If it keeps happening although nothing about your connection has changed, I'd consider that as a possible sign that someone who isn't you IS trying to access your account.

No, it is not getting locked that often, more like once a day or so

Your ISP may be changing your IP with lease renewals. Have you noticed if your modem ha been resetting at all lately? If so.. then your IP may be changing. That is what usually trips it up. You can see what your current public IP address is at the Speedguide.Net site. If you see it has changed next time you get prompted from the game again, then you have your answer. If you bond the one-time-use password feature (either a physical token generator or their free phone app) it will stop getting triggered by the IP change.

Would strongly advise to add the extra layer of security. If your IP address hasn't been changing, then someone may indeed have managed to get part of your log-in credentials and is trying to get into your account. The extra password will go a long way to preventing that from happening.

well it has been happening for several months so if they are trying to get into my account, they are not very good hackers.

Do they charge for the authenticator ? I do not have a smart phone

The physical token was like $10 when I got mine in 2009 for FFXI. Think they raised it to $12 or $13 eventually.

It lists the token as 9 GBP are 11 Euro. Down at the bottom, they FINALLY list the USD price of $10.99. The link down there states you can get it through Crysta (1099, the $10.99 equivalent). Looks like they're trying to cover all the bases to sell the physical tokens. lol
