Limit Cross Class Abilities to a Main and Sub

I know the team is looking into changing the job class system....but here's just an idea.

You can only access skills from one other class you have leveled up. Your sub. It gives you abilities of that class of your current level.

Ex.

Level 25 MRD
Subbing a level 50 GLD

The MRD has access to all MRD 25 and below abilities and all level 25 and below GLD abilities.

Just don't do this limitation with job traits. Make it so you can cross class any and all job traits from all classes. SE just needs to make some unique traits to cross over.

This could make jobs more unique and find interesting combinations. Of course there will be cookie cutter setups...but that can't be avoided... SE just needs to make sure that each of the classes have very unique abilities and traits for this to work.

So FFXI? But with subs the same level as your current?

If they did that, they would have to raise or eliminate the AP cap. Right now we're limited in our use of (almost) any ability from any class we've leveled by our AP. To limit it further could be a bit extreme.

No thanks. Everyone would just sub THM or CON for the healing spells.

What main? what sub? We have a armory system, not a main/sub system

Could also think of it as being similar to FF Tactics (or FF 5) where each job had access to their main skills and could equip a secondary skill set from another job, with the added level restriction on secondary skills.

Personally, I don't think this sort of change is really necessary as you can more-or-less already emulate this with the current system (within the limits imposed by ability points) and I like the added flexibility that the current system provides.

Actually I'd prefer if there was no cross class ability swap at all really. Just make each class hold it's own without needing other classes to make it work. But the cross swapping seems to be not going anywhere.

best example is how tanking is working in the current game state. You need abilities from multiple classes in order to hold hate.

And con and thm really only steal abilities from each other being the only two mage classes. So they kinda like my OP lol....

Naw son, I prefer the current system to that.

It dont seem too much like a new idea to me at all. I seem to recall another FF MMO that had something similar :D
I'd like to see SE distance themselves from FFXI, not become more like it, just my 2 cents :)
