Why I think now is the best time to gear your gathering classes.

So. My name is Morzy. I've been gathering since about 2.3, not very long. One thing I've always tried to do is anticipate updates, more specifically, the expansion. As a gatherer, the best way to get prepared is to BE prepared with the best gear and tools.

So while I see some say it's not worth gearing up their gathering classes because you won't make the gil back before expansion... Sure that may be true, but I think the chances of that gear giving you a head start in the expansion as a gatherer is pretty high.

Also tbh in the expansion, either the gear you are hesitating to buy NOW will be either..
A: In demand because of the flood of players, overpriced.
B: Utterly useless and replaced
C: Extremely useful, overpriced.


And it's always been this way, since we got Supra and 3 star nodes.
If you wanted 3 star, you needed a Supra or the new gear to get you there.
If you wanted 450/450 nodes, you needed the melded offhands.
If I want to be ready for 3.0, I'll be ready.

1 star: 370 gathering/332 perception
2 star: 408 gathering/389 perception
3 star: 420 gathering/420 perception
3 star: 450 gathering/450 perception
expansion:?????????????????????????


I have 492 gathering and 468 perception. With a little luck and a lot of work, I'm ready.


If you're on Lamia, hit me up. I need to get back in the gathering groove before expansion, I've been lazy.

I agree, basically by gearing up right now, you're getting the cheapest prices on forager's gear and the offhands AND you'll be able to skip on the exorbitant overpriced beginning 3.0 gear which will cost a lot more than they're worth at least for the first few weeks.

Even though it's likely worth it just so you can avoid inflated prices of new gear and also to get higher success rate on nodes, I don't think the new nodes will require anything higher than current 2 star requirements. Infact, I would imagine it to be between 1 and 2 star. Think about it, for every expansion that gets released, if you had to get to 3 star gathering just to access Heavensward nodes it would be put off so many new players and gathering would be less popular. That being said, getting a Foragers set is still worth it I'd say.

Since we're on the topic of Heavensward, what do you guys think is going to happen with the new nodes in terms of accessing them? Do you think it will be possible to reach nodes without flying? (I'd really like to start gathering as soon as I log in). My take on it is that unfortunately you'll probably need a 60 battle class to have any hope of reaching 60 miner or botanist unless you wanted to grind out much lower level nodes for a long time.

Heheh i rather level crafters than gatherers cuz the undercutting for gatherers have the possibility of being plummeted again by bots. Where as crafting relies on gear/skill and some luck which bots cannot replicate.
Also ppl r lazy to craft half the time and have a butt load of gil so ofc they will buy our over priced gear on week 1.
Even if we buy ur over priced materials, it won't even come close to how much we'll sell our stuff for lol

Except if you want to powerlevel crafting in the first few days you absolutely must gather because it will take some time for resources to be put up on the market place.

Well, if there's one good thing about locking everything in Heavensward behind storyline progression, it's that it should cut down significantly on the number of bots gathering in the new areas. While I'm sure that RMT will soon have storyline progression down to assembly line efficiency, it will still likely take several days to get a bot to level 50 BTN, FSH, or MIN and get them through the Main Scenario so they can get to work flooding the AH with new gathered goods - and every time SE manages to ban one, they'll have to do it all over again.

Legit gatherers should have a grace period of a week or so where they're competing only against other legit gatherers. Which, I suppose, is another reason to make sure you're geared up and ready to go when the expansion hits!

Im pretty sure they will be using exsisting materials to craft the new starter gear and the new materials to craft the high low- high end gear.
Cuz it'll be SEs way to cheese gear catch up lol
But im also sure a lot of gatherers will undercut each other like mad once they know where to get stuff. Cuz there will always be ppl that want gil NOW and will do all in their power to sell their stuff over urs.
Thats what will make gearing up gatherers not tht effective.
But imo Gearing up gatherer now is only effective as OP claims it to be if ur on a small server that has a handful of high end gatherers. If ur on large ones chances r prices will plummet before the end of early access.
I.e 3000 gil for 1 item -> 800 gil for 1 item

Also have u considered how long it'll take to level ur gathering classes from 50-60?
If ur gonna be using tht headstart effectively ur gonna have to bum rush ur gatherers to 60 while selling off the stuff u've obtain. Cuz the player who gets to 60 1st will have access to the new "unspoiled" nodes thus making more gil than the player who slowly levels by just gathering the same few stuff.
Having 4 star stats probs won't do much cuz reaching the reqs for a level 51 gathering spot will probably be = to a 1 or 2 star node.
Having higher stats won't boost ur exp ( unless hq i think ) gain and will be redundant by the time u hit 60.

You know it's funny people saying it pay off to get it now.

BUT do you even have any guaranty that the high stats you have now for gathering will even need to be that high it could just as easily be much lower than what it takes for 3 star nodes.

I have no idea tbh. While the areas to get the new nodes will be higher level, I hope I won't need a level 50 combat class. I don't know what the difficulty of the new nodes will be, but Ido believe that the gear I have now will help me between level 50-60 because it could mean I don't have to upgrade my gear, at least until lvl 60 BiS.
