Roadblocked by Desynth?

I'll admit all my desyth skills are at 1, since I'm kind of afraid I'll level the wrong ones without looking around. However, I just got done crafting the 1-star crafter HQ AF gear that's available to me, and apparently I fall short of being able to do any 2-star crafts. Likewise, I have the HQ gatherer AF gear made and am not quite able to hit the 1-star token nodes. Haven't messed with fishing yet but I'm assuming a similar situation there.

So what desynth classes will I need just to start getting books? And are the rest of the lvl 55 crafter/gatherer pieces in those books? Waist, neck, and earring slots and gatherer rings?

I've been fairly self-sufficient about crafting and gathering so far, but I think I might need a bit more help here.

did you meld your crafter/gatherer gear with materia? without those any success will be unlikely

one kind of books requires fieldcraft I and battlecraft I demimateria, but you can buy them from the marketboard

all other kind of books dont need desynth at all, its not necessary for crafting

If you wanna be self-sufficient for your demimaterias, try leveling up BSM or GSM desynth.
They are the best ones to farm Field/Battlecraft demimateria I.
Those come from the crafted level 25-50 recipes. (higher levels can give you 2-3 battledemis per desynth if you`re lucky)

WVR and LTW are fine too for that purpose, but most lv25+ WVR recipes are painful and require tons of stuff.
LTW is very server dependent since it use materials dropped by enemies, which can be really cheap on some servers or kinda expensive on others. Unless you want to manually farm those, or have your DoW/DoM retainer grab those for you.

BSM and GSM pretty much only use ores and wood for the crafts you'll desynth, which you can easily grab with Miner/Botanist.

It's better to just buy the FC1s and 3s than lvling up desynth just for that.

Not only would you not be saving enough money, the urge to get the demimateria you want may push you into a desynth class that may not be your final goal..

Desynth has much more purpose than to just provide you with FC1s and 3s, especially if you end up doing a lot of duty farming.

Actually, I don't even know what all comes from desynth, besides demimateria. Crafting's kind of been a nice in-game hobby for me, since I don't usually like being under the pressure of trying to progress in battle content (no Ramuh EX clear here, and haven't even tried T9). So I'll admit I haven't taken much serious consideration as to what I want to do with crafting although I'm curious about endgame now.

As far as melding, I've held off on melding through levels until I reach the point where it's required... which I guess is now lol.

For the most part, Desynth is more a novelty than anything else. You generally get some of the materials that went into creating the item (assuming you succeed) : one of the raw materials, and the shards/crystals/clusters that went into making it, in quantities of each ranging from 1 to however many went into it.

For example, the recipe for a Militia Mortar is 3 Fire Crystals, 2 Earth Crystals, 2 Darksteel Nuggets, 1 Spruce Lumber. Desynth'ing that Militia Scythe can get you : up to 3 Fire Crystals, up to 2 Earth Crystals, AND one among the following : up to 2 Darksteel Nuggets, 1 Spruce Lumber, 1 Fieldcraft Demimateria, 1 Clear Demimateria.

Fish seem to be the main thing to differ from this. Culinarian desynthesizes fish, and for the rare fish they can get some interesting stuff : swimwear, tier 4 materia. Or they can just get sand.

The prime use for Desynth is to take drops and turn them into materials to create something you can use, or sell for a profit. Primal weaponry, dungeon drops, Coil drops, things like that. You can get some raw materials a lot more cheaply that way than by hitting up the MB for them.

That is soo not true..
Desynth is the bread and butter of crafters, it's how most of them make money. It's still one of the most profitable ways to make gil.
Of course with the trend of ARR coming to an end, prices have dropped a lot on demimateria but here's a basic breakdown of each demimateria's cost to make if you desynth them yourself, compare to MB value and see if there's profit to be had or not.

BC3: 40k
McD: 70k
FC3: 35k + a bunch of extra mats

Those are just the major ones with steep competition. If you specialize in FC1s and BC1s, your profit margin will be even better.

That's basically all you're after, demimateria of various kinds.
Desynthing CAN give you materials, but for crafted items, it only gives back one of its ingredients so you're still losing money when you do this. For loot, it could be worthwhile if the mat it gives is expensive/rare. But when you get the demimateria (NOT the clear one) that's when you make a profit.

it is pretty easy to level BSM desynth to 75, you can buy everything you need from vendors, once you get to 70 you can start desynth artisan tools with 60%+ success rate, "hello MCDs"

MCD = 200k (Diabolos server)
