What item?
Normally that info is there. If it's craftable, you'll get a link to the recipe. If it can be gathered by DoL, you'll get a link to the gathering details. If it's vendor purchaseable, you'll get a link to the NPCs who sell it. If it can be a quest reward, you'll get a link to the quest(s). If it's dropped by mobs, you'll get a list of the mobs and where they are. If it's dropped in dungeon chests, you'll get links to the dungeons.
Oh, and the Libra Eorzea app for iOS & Android is another source, but I think it has the same info as the Lodestone Playguide.
[db:item=9e56596b581]Aetherial Pastoral Oak Cane[/db:item] i see most say at the bottom ? This one says crafting and repair :S
hmm... yeah, that's odd. Actually, checking a few more, it looks like there's quite a few of the Aetherial items that don't specify their location. It's supposed to show it the way it shows that the Aetherial Elm Crook is dropped from Halatali, but I guess some of the items, like this one, don't include that part.
I can tell you that all Aetherial items are dungeon drops. With a required level of 35, I'm guessing that one's probably from the Sunken Temple of Qarn, but I don't see anywhere that actually says so. (XIVDB doesn't have a location for it either.)
Aetherial items can also drop from blue leve treasure boxes and also any treasure maps except alexandrite map.
I got that Aetherial Pastoral Oak Cane as a treasure chest reward from a guildleve quest.
Pink stuff comes from dungeons, leve treasure chests, and map treasure chests.
