Excuse my ignorance: can't use swiftcast while synced?

Hello everyone! First time poster here. After reading up on SCH guides and seeing how swiftcast is a great cross skill I decided to finally level up thaumaturge to get it (Ended up really enjoying and decided why not become a BLM too?).

Everything seemed great until I started doing temple of Qarn with a friend and I noticed in the first boss when attempting to use my swiftcast+resurrection macro, it didn't execute the swiftcast on me. Naturally, I thought perhaps it was my bad on making an error of some sort on my macro and manually pressed swiftcast, then regular rez. Well it turned out that even pressing swiftcast alone didn't work because my level was synced. I feel like it's strange because isn't Qarn a lvl 35 dungeon and swiftcast is a lvl 26 ability? Do I need to level my BLM to 35 to use it there and other dungs?

Come to think of it.. I don't think I could even use it in Haukke either (Before BLM crystal). I swear I'll feel so dumb if it's something I missed lol

You only get so many Cross class abilities every 10 levels (none from level 1-9). You need to move the abilities up a slot or two if you want to use them when synced (from left to right)

If you remove your soul crystal, however, you get a cross class ability every 5 levels (in case you want to do that)

I would always have Swiftcast as the 3rd skill (since it's level 26). Protect and Cleric Stance in the first two as those are important. "Welfare" stoneskin is not worth using in any of the first three slots when you have Adlo.

Ohhh I see now! Haha thanks a whole bunch guys I rearranged my cross class abilities and everything is working smoothly now :D

Cross-class doesn't care about the level of the cross-classed skill, just that the slot would be available. Swiftcast is level 26, but I've been able to use it even when levelsynced since it's in the second slot. Point of interest... You can't actually make use of it until level 28 since you can't raise during combat (CNJ/WHM,) but you can use Resurrect (level 22) on ACN/SMN/SCH.

No different than me cross-classing stoneskin on PLD in the first slot and being able to use it Haukke Manor, a level 28 dungeon when the WHM still can't.

As for SCH, I rather have Cleric Stance in the 2nd slot because the fairy is doing the bulk of the healing work in those level 20+ dungeons and Swiftcast isn't really needed. The 3rd slot makes the most sense because of the heavy-hitters of Brayflox and Qarn.
