Question about Unspoiled Gathering Nodes

Really sorry for the noob question, but is there an element of RNG in using Field Mastery on Unspoiled nodes? Twice now I've used Field Mastery 3 and it's stayed at zero :confused: Or is my stats somehow factored into this as well?

I've just turned 50, I'm lucky enough to afford a few pieces of decent gear, everything is unmelded at the moment. I'm working on getting the melds to add at a later date.

Gear is: - Hamlet Hat, Botanist set, Dodore Choker, raptorskin belt and rings, militia bracelets, rose gold earrings of gathering. Main Hand is Rauni and off hand is militia scythe, so... Gathering is at 323, Perception at 332. I should imagine that affects things as well :) Thank you for any help!

Some of the unspoiled nodes require far higher gathering than you have. Field Mastery only works if you have at least a 1% chance or more (usually if you qualify to be able to gather anything from the node, the very first time you have a 25% chance, after that you'd have an 81% chance or higher I believe it is without the mastery skills). I would suggest using xivdb.com to look up what it is you're trying to gather and see what the requirements for it are. This site has the spawn times/locations/slots of each material (but sadly it does not list the required gathering/perception) http://www.ffxivclock.com/#/

Ok thank you very much Darra :) I suspected that might be the case, and thank you very much for the link! :D

The lowest gathering requirement on an unspoiled node is 335 I think.

I will check it later.

But basically you can't gather from them in unmelded HQ AF.

You can actually gather the 1 star items in a raptorskin jerkin set, you don't really need melds until you start getting into items for forager tools or two star or higher crafts.

I checked on my Jenova alt who is miner & botanist 46.

At gathering 206 she was able to get the gregarious worm from the gold ore site in E. Thanalan. Four strikes to uncover, Sharp Vision III. Seeing as she has gathering 220 as BOT I must try some unspoiled botany nodes with her.

But personally, on my main, I have become so used to everything BIS save for the main hand which is merely supra on miner & botanist.

Edit: 3 swings to uncover on the Crawler Cocoon node. Sharp Vision III to have any odds on harvesting.
