Arcanist tips?

New player here. Only a week or so in. Got to lvl. 30 and was just looking for tips on playing an arcanist. Where i should slot attributes and such. Anything that i should probably already know but may have overlooked about playing this class.

All attribute points will go into Intelligence. Level Black Mage to 26 for Swiftcast and Archer to level 4 for Raging Strikes. I would get used to putting your pets on "Obey" and using their abilities all manually when you want them to. The alternative is they will use them whenever they are off cooldown and not necessarily when most effective. Get to know all of your abilities in and out. Read them carefully so you will know exactly what they do and when to use them.

Depends if you're going to be a scholar or a summoner. Since you're 30, you're no longer an arcanist (at least, when finish your class & job quests) Your points go in Mind if scholar (heal), and Intelligence if summoner (dps).

There are limited opportunities to reallocate your points, so if you change your mind later, you won't be stuck there.

If you want to stay DPS (at least for the time being), then the next thing you need to do is level Thaumaturge to 15 so you can unlock Summoner. (As Garotte mentioned, you'll want to get it the rest of the way to 26 for the Swiftcast skill at some point, but the first step is getting it to 15 for unlocking your job.)

Put your Arcanist skill points into Intelligence for now. (If you decide you want Scholar later, you can change them to Mind at that point if you want.)

Since it wasn't mentioned, if you want to try Scholar you need to get Conjurer to 15. You'll still want Thaumaturge at 26 for swiftcast, so you may as well start with that.

As for anything you should probably already know:

1. Summon 2 (topaz/titan) should only be used when soloing.
2. Summon 1 (emerald/garuda) has a knockback. Keep it on obey so they don't use it accidentally.
3. DOT everything and refresh as they expire.
