The Targeting System Is Failing on PS4

When I started playing Realm Reborn, I was playing on PS3 an when I wanted to target an enemy, I targeted exactly what I wanted to. The enemy that was directly in front of me was the enemy that was always targeted and so I was very satisfied.

But since converting to PS4, the targeting system has done a complete 180 turn. When I want to target the enemy directly in front of me, I either target an enemy to the side of the screen, an ally or an NPC. When you are trying to defeat an enemy before it kills you and you have to cycle through every enemy, ally or NPC in order to target the one that you want, there is a problem. An enemy that is directly in front of you should be the first thing that you target automatically. It is perhaps the only gameplay complaint that I have and this is something that I would like to see resolved before Heavensward is launched.

Have you tried fiddling with the targeting filter options? It makes a HUGE difference. There are very useful parameters to tweak in there to make your targeting a lot more fluid.

Only on PS4?
It's been failing on PC since launch.

You probably hadn't seen its horrors before, TC. I've seen failure on the targeting system since I first got it on PC. It continued on into the PS3 version, and then finally to the PS4 version when I upgraded. This is nothing new.

It's true, sometimes it's honestly better to use the extremely slow controller trackpad to click on enemies. At least it's somewhat easier to select party members, you just gotta cycle through the party list as fast as possible.

But when i'm doing solo fates and i want to toss a heal on someone else who's by themselves, it won't let me target them with tab targeting. No matter what i do.

Check your selection settings, it might be that you have it set so that you can't click on them. As a healer you might also want to look into "mouseover" macros.

I have had it where the targeting filter options have me "supposed" to be only targeting enemies and nothing else, but it makes no difference.

Works perfectly for me. Obviously the only case where its still inefficient is in pvp. Because there s no "target X or Y jobs" option. Otherwise targeting with the Dualshock 4 is fine for me even in engaging fights.

Change to a target filter that allow you to taget players without targeting enemies.
Also the R2+L1 or L2+R1 tab-targeting ignore the target filter and only target enemies.

Also to OP: There is no difference in the target system with a controller between PC, PS3 and PS4. Maybe you configured it on the PS3 differently than on the PS4.

Easiest way to target for me on controller is to face in the direction of the enemy with the left stick and press X

Then L2+R1 or R2+L1 if that targeted the wrong thing, but it should be close to the one you want
