took a year off the game and now coming back after hearing about the expansion. Focusing on crafting for now because not sure if obtaining higher level gear just for it to be instantly useless at 51? Should i still bother getting that ilvl 90+ gear with only a 3 months till exp hits? Also will relic weapons and crafting counterparts be used at the next level cap as a prereq and be upgradable? Thoughts or info is appreciated! Dont want to waste my time if its just gonna end up a desyth item.
Official word is that the current highest level gear will not be immediately useless at level 51. It has not been said what ilvl gear will be starting at in 3.0 but it's implied current best gear will be good for most if not all the levelling to 60.
I think it's safe to say that none of the current items will be a "prereq" for anything. SE tends to think about new players all the time, and someone who joins after Heavensward won't have the luxury of farming level 50 content for weeks on end to gear up for level 60 content. Whether or not our current items will be a good start at 60 still or rendered mostly obsolete by the time we reach the new level cap is a different matter.
I'm not really sure what the ilvl requirement is for Charybdis fight, but you need to do that trial as part of the storyline to proceed into 3.0. So you're going to have to gear up at least to be able to clear that.
Purely speculation but I would hazard the guess that the gear we have now will remain essentially the BiS options for lvl 50 content even in the future. Even post-expansion when people are lvl 60 and wearing lvl60 gear, the level sync system would somehow nerf their stats should they queue into lvl50 trials/raids. lvl50 ilvl130 gear like Dreadwyrm/Magitek etc wouldn't suffer this level sync penalty so would still be most optimal (but probably not essential) for all time
I noticed that with each patch they shorten the grinding for old gear, so i suspect they would do the same when the exp hits. Gold saucer token farming it is
