Endgame food: Triple Cream Coffee for the WHM and Flint Caviar for the SCHs. These foods are 4-star and expensive. You will need to be decked out in gears to max their efficacy and their gains over the other 2-star foods etc. are not major, hence these foods are not recommended unless you're like close to pushing i130 and are doing serious content etc.
The other good endgame alternatives are 2-star foods or the pre-2 star foods: Pineapple Juice or Mulled Tea for the WHM I'd say and various different ones for the SCH, depending on the build you're gunning at (crit-heavy, accuracy capping etc.).
Leveling food: pretty much anything suffices, as they will give you the exp-boost. If I were you I'd look into PIE-food first and foremost if you can get it cheap. PIE/DET are the best picks for WHM-food IMO, but there's no food that has that combo apart from the Triple Cream Coffee (that I know of), hence you'll probably wanna look into PIE-foods like Mulled Tea etc. that are cheap but good.

As a SCH depending on the fight I will use
- Apkallu Omelets/Steamed Catfish (Acc/Vit food)
- Black Truffle Risotto
- Flint Caviar
WHM
- Pineapple Ponzecake/Sachertorte
- Pineapple Juice

I always drink Apple Juice because I'm cheap http://i.imgur.com/IdqrJav.gif

For leveling food boosts don't really matter at all so just get something cheap with a stat nobody cares about like Grilled Trout. For leveling the only reason to use food is for the EXP boost so you just buy cheap to spam it. At endgame food starts to matter more for boosting certain stats you need. I mostly use Pineapple Juice on WHM though have been experimenting with DET food for speed running EXDR and stuff because i will be attacking a lot more.

For Endgame on my SCH I use Flint Caviar, as it isn't too expensive and Crit/Vit/Acc are great buffs for a SCH.
As said above, for leveling just buy whatever is cheapest, as it is really the exp boost that you want.

I actually use endgame sch Steamed Catfish because the accuracy :o
while leveling I didnt use class specific food only used Fairy Apples... easy to get and the +3% xp
If you want class specific Id say as mentioned above Apple Juice, maybe Mulled Tea.

I am regurgitating what many have said already, but here's my own preference of food ATM.
For general accuracy purposes on either healer:
-Lava Toad Legs (high Accuracy Cap, low Crit cap); Steamed Catfish have the same stat pattern but has a higher Crit/VIT cap, you most likely won't make any use of the additional accuracy though.
-Flint Cavier (high Crit cap, lower Accuracy cap)
Any other Acc/(sub stat useful for healer) food is pretty limiting, sadly.
For SCH end game without accuracy in mind, I prefer Black Truffle Risotto.
For WHM end game without accuracy in mind, I prefer Triple Cream Coffee, though Pineapple Juice and Mulled Tea make decent substitutes.
I never used food with leveling, so sadly, can't really help there. I would advise anything that gives PIE as your MP consumption will be dependent on the aptitude of the party and having more MP buffer would be useful for that.

If triple cream coffee is too expensive (and you need probably item level 110-120 or something, to get the max bonuses~), you may also just drink Mulled Tea (really easy to farm ingridents as botanist 30-35~, and easy to craft), when beeing a fresh level 50. When you gear up, change to pineapple juice. Which means, i agree with Ghishlain.
I would strongly prefer Piety Food over max DET food, that gives you more benefit in my Opinion. More MP = higher MP regen = better MP management in difficulter fights, where you dont know the mechanics perfectly yet (= progressing~)
As for leveling: Use the cheapest you can get, for the +3% exp bonus. No matter what stats. Whatever falls into your inventory, or just buy some 3 gil eatable stuff from npc.
