The Allagan Army (and related miscellany)

I recently finished gearing my healer alt with full BCoB stuff (Twin was a stingy jerk with the pants) and I've found myself wondering about specifics of the Allagan military. One thing I've noticed is the red bauble that dangles from the headgear of I think all BCoB classes. I've become fond of the notion that it was a sort of indicator for those who served on Dalamud or Ragnarok. If that were true, I think it'd be fascinating to see a whole range of such indicators.

Secondly, I noticed that healers, summoners, and black mages are the only classes that don't have their faces obscured when the full set is equipped and visible. I wonder if this speaks to some kind of inherent superiority of mages in Allagan culture. We know from other equipment ingame that you don't need to have your face clear to see (the turban/visor combo like Yda wears, for example). I could kind of see it, considering some of the high-end magic that Xande and Amon were involved with and what they were able to achieve with magitek long before the garleans.

Lastly, an idle, rambling thought on the soldiers who were posted to Dalamud. Do you think they survived the overload that got sent to the Crystal Tower and undid the empire? If not, then the ship/station remained in remarkably good shape given how much of it is intact when we visit its exploded remnants. If so, it'd be fascinating to get a look back on the last days of the last allagans (aside from Xande and Friends who were zzzzzzz'ing in Syrcus Tower of course) on a space station for a giant angry chopped-up dragon.

Uhhh I don't think any one stayed on Dalamud but I would like to hear on how their military was structured if it's like this the stuff in the first coil wer grunt gear and second coil wer the leading officers and final ehhhhh no idea.

I'm just curious, why do you say that? Clearly they had the technology to create space stations and spaceships, and both have mechanisms the player makes use of. If nothing else, I could easily imagine a token garrison.

Dalamud was built to be self sustaining I think with the automated defenses no real use people to be up in it sure they may have been up there when building it.

But a definite reason as to why no one would be up there in Dalamud is because they would have been tempered by Bahumat.

I would ask if it CAN temper since it didn't seem interested at Carteneau but I suppose that comes to light in SCoB and FCoB in which case, I suppose I'll find on my own in time. So that's a good point. Still, the equipment is undoubtedly from the allagan military and I still wonder if there's any intentional rank structure or cultural cues put into the Allagan and/or High Allagan gear itself.

Unein and Doga's clones where using high allagan gear, so assuming they were royal, kind of make sense that the army used normal allag gear and on the big ranks, wa sthe high allag gear. I also would like to know more about this "Onion Knights" if they were real, Im sure they didnt looked like those minions haha

I was thinking about it, but I think the most we've gotten in-game on the Allagan gear itself is a fairly indirect hint towards a roundabout clue towards a vague explanation as to why they left holes in the back for tails to fit through. But I only got there from pondering why they needed to go so crazily far out of their way to show that G'raha wasn't of direct descent from the (presumably Hyuran) Allagan royalty.

Much less in love with the implications of there being obvious tail holes in the Allagan gear, but not the High Allagan. It would completely change the implications of that entire scene if we were to find out that, say, all but a few of the Miqo'te in the Allagan Empire were second-class citizens beholden to their Hyuran overlords. (Maybe even genetically engineered?)

But the only guy with any answers (in-game) is in no position to share, so who knows?

On the tail-hole in Allagan vs High Allagan...I wonder if it could reflect that miqo'te, like in Eorzea today, weren't in positions of organizational leadership as often and tended towards spreading out and working individually and less through delegation. H'naanza is the only miqo'te guild leader iirc, as far as modern Eorzea.

it kinda makes sense that non pure-blood allgans will be relegated to mere foot soldiers similar to how the Garleans do it. Rhitalyn was a rare exception and even then most garleans didn't like it.

the acn guilmaster is actually a male miqo'te. the roegadyn we see is just a stand in while he goes out and does research.

While not confirmed, the machinist guildmaster might be another male miqote since you can briefly see him in the machinists guild in the lastest heavensward trailer

Trouble is, G'raha's ancestor (I like to call him "Desch," to go with "Salina") seems to have been in/near Eorzea one full Umbral Era earlier than the earliest Miqo'te were. Which leads me to any of:

• G'raha is distantly of mixed-race (as the old theory went), in which case an explanation of why he couldn't be directly of Salina's line seems unnecessary, unless Salina couldn't bear children at all (she was very sickly in FFIII). But then why are there tail holes built into the gear?
• Any Miqo'te in Eorzea before then (for the Dalamud Project, etc.) died out in the aftermath of the Calamity. Salina and Desch were on another continent entirely when the Calamity hit. Since "Calamity" seems to go hand-in-hand with long-range communications being taken out, they shouldn't have known immediately that the tower had fallen/caused the Calamity to begin with. Could actually be a much longer story here than what we've heard.
• The Miqo'te in Allag at the time were neither Seekers nor Keepers, and Desch's line, at some point, bred into the Gryphon clan. It seems odd to think that such a distinct trait inherited from a nunh would make one a pariah, but from one odd bit of G'raha's unaddressed NPC dialogue, that seems to be exactly what happened. In this case, it follows that the trait must have been introduced into the clan very recently, and not following orthodox Seeker breeding behavior.

Not going to touch the "second-class citizen" thing in relation to his "destiny," but it creeps me out a bit.
