The Introduction of the Missing Musketeer Class (and why now is a great time for it)

Soon the Grand Companies of Eorza will cease their recruitment drive and testing of applicants and begin the campaign proper. Because so much lies at stake for the sake of Limsa Lominsa, Vylbrand, and Eorza as a whole, I feel the devs would be missing a great opportunity to launch the Musketeer class.

It goes a little somethin' like this.

We log in to fanfare, a slightly changed Limsa tune playing over the sea air. A bit more militaristic maybe. There are more guards standing around, idle animation different from the shuffling, must-make-it-to-the-bathroom dance the others do. This one is determined, steadfast. The adventurers' guild linkpearl glows softly, wherein Baderon informs you that something is happening in the Coral Tower. There you find Merlwyb overlooking the room, gaze falling on every new recruit as each is sworn in, takes the oath, and is given the chance to join the musketeers guild.

I'll admit it's a bit more stylized than SE would make it, and implementing Musketeers while ignoring Arcanists and Beastmasters would likely never happen, but it is a great opportunity and would fit within the lore.

Also, I'm absolutely pining for this class. I have a hard time investing interest in any of the other DoWs/DoMs simply because I want musketeers so badly.

Please SE, make this happen.

Now is not the time to start bringing in new classes. Let them fix the myriad of problems with the core game system first, then we can worry about new classes later.

I'd argue against them being new classes, strictly speaking. Musketeers, Arcanists, and Beastmasters (evidently) all have existing guild halls and models.

That being said I realise the work that would still need to be put into implementing them, and I agree with your statement. One can dream though, right?

And in any case there is a time line built in to my scenario. The launch of full Grand Companies isn't for a while (it's not 1.19, is it?) so it gives them time to work things out. Of course I want the class, but I'm willing to wait a bit.

Sooner would be better than later though.

Agreed. Fix the core issues (which they're doing a hell of a job with), then give us some guns. Thankfully I think their core fixes are coming to a head soon, which means hopefully my scenario may yet come true.

And thank you, Jibe, for not breaking this down into another flame war. I'm sure I'm not the only one that feels this way.

They said they were going to add Musketeer and Arcanist once the battle/class/job changes are finished. Honestly at this point, in my opinion, the best time to release them would be PS3 launch (maybe with a few others). Reason being, it encourages people who have been here since launch to go back and rank from level 1 again on a new class.

I think PS3 launch is a great time to introduce some new classes. Core fixes will be done by then and they can start giving us some cool stuff.

There is no Beastmaster by the way. The guild you are probably thinking about is the Shepherd's Guild.
