Yes and the say you can continue playing. I haven't been able to log in for an hour since I got booted.
With all other maintenance there is a warning in chat that it's coming. There was no warning.
And Saturday starting at 9pm (pdt) for me is prime time to play!!

Thought I managed to get past the Error 2002 because of how long it took, but it was just a lag spike.

as much as i love the game, it's seriously frustrating that maintenance is being done on a SATURDAY night.. that is seriously THE worst time you could possibly do server maintenance.. I've played my share of MMO's and generally server maintenance is scheduled for Tuesday mornings specifically because that is typically low time for gaming.. what really rubs me the wrong way, is your maintenance message says if you get disconnected just log in again and you should be good.. after an hour of login attempts and getting the 2002 error, i gave up.. this really isn't giving a good impression for new players like myself...

No matter what day and time SE chooses for maintenance, someone, somewhere is going to be inconvenienced by this. SE are fully entitled to take down the game for maintenance at any time they wish incidentally, it's in the Terms of Service you agreed to when you signed up.
Oh, and SE did post a notice about this maintenance several days ago on the Lodestone (and on this forum under 'Maintenance') - it's the player's responsibility to keep themselves informed about that.
Basically, regardless of your wishes, SE is fully entitled to take the game down for server maintenance any time it's needed, and do inform players when they intend to do so.
