NA maintenance thread
Currently maintenance is being done on the NA Data Center from Saturday 11pm CT through Sunday 5am CT. I find it rather odd that maintenance would be done on a weekend when most players expect the game to be available. Why wouldn't the maintenance be scheduled for a slow period during the week when people are in school or at work?
It just seems that Square Enix isn't taking their customers schedules into consideration when scheduling server maintenance.

SE actually has been taking it in consideration of players, just cannot please every timezone. If they brought it down on a saturday night , they had a good reason to. Also- if you read carefully, gameplay is still possible. Problem is so many people are trying to log in at once. Going to have to give it some time.

How about a different error code when server is in maintenance?
Also maybe a mini-game on the forums page, something like a punching bag. lol

I was playing, it kicked me out and I haven't been able to get back in. Your experience may be different but in my opinion the majority of people either working or going to school in North America tend to do so during the day Monday through Friday. The weekend is when most people have time off. However, your mileage may be different.

So another Saturday maintenance? Seriously? Am I to assume that Saturday's are the slowest gaming day for NA FFXIV players?

Honestly, I think it's their ISP that's pulling this crud, not SE themselves.

This is starting to become hilarious. I'd be more annoyed myself if I was actually having fun in the game currently, but I just log on for dailies lately :/.
They literally have to choose the worst day possible to do maintenance for NA players. Wonder if this is going to become the norm, every Saturday is maintenance day.
/facepalm

Jeez, again? Guess I wont do any instances while during maintenance. Will there be a benefit to this maintenance?

Then, what's being worked on? Answer: The network and routing TO the servers. That's not owned by SE. Thus, they can't control when their ISP decides to do maintenance like this. Lay the blame off SE because they likely never had a hand in the maintenance time frame - all they could do is warn us that it's going to happen.

Oh they are taking their customers into consideration OP.
Ya see, what would happen is. SE would have maintenance at a time when the least amount of players were effected.
However, those players would come to the forums and QQ about not being able to play. The cycle would rinse and repeat itself until SE decided to be considerate and change up maintenance times. However, by changing up maintenance times SE would be inconveniencing an even bigger number of players. So in order to try and please both groups, I imagine they're doing a live live maintenance. (This is my theory based on my own observations.)
Personally, I wish they would just take the servers off line for the maintenance. I find it more disruptive when they try and do live maintenance and people end up lagging, 90k, or the instance servers go down... Tbh, I just log at start of maintenance so I don't have to deal with the issues. XD
