The last i heard about it, it was going to be released with heavensward. Haven't heard anything else. There is also no such thing as lagless in MMO's lol.
Weren't they still planning where to locate the servers?
I think that, in reality, it was a 'we're looking into the possibility' statement, not a promise or definite plan. A bit like how NASA are 'looking into the possibility' of a Lunar Base or interstellar travel. They're thinking about it, not saying it will happen or when.
i'd love em to have it for 3.0 launch but it sounds quite a lot of work for 3months. At least i'd like to have some word about the situation or roadmap for when and what is being planned.
april 1st news: EU servers get transferred to the new EU datacenter. Characters on them can't be played for 3 months. Please transfer to a NA server if you want to play them during those 3 months.
Even if they do relocate the EU servers, how many people are actually going to move? I didn't even realise when I started playing that there was a so-called EU server cluster (which is entirely pointless if it's still located in the US) and I just rolled on a server a bunch of other people played on, and I'm unlikely to move now. Based on past MMO experiences, dedicated EU servers tend to be barren lifeless places filled only with people arguing in public chat about which language everyone should be speaking in.
Same situation with me. I even know UK players who've transferred from EU servers to NA servers as it's easier and more populated. It's possible to argue that a NA server has three main languages - English, French and Spanish whereas a EU server could easily have over twenty. For English speakers a NA server is often a best bet, regardless of whether you're in the EU or NA.
My ping is also usually between 90-100ms with zero packet loss on ADSL2. It's unlikely that there'd be a huge enough decrease to warrant paying for a server change and the inconvenience of losing housing, FC, friends etc.
That is not for every game.
On PvP you want lesser ping possible, and playing PvP in NA when you are EU, works only for people that, like you, have first class internet. Everyone else will be doomed.
Just look at titan ex, if you know the fight, it is a faceroll when you have ping zero, but you may be slided if your ping exceed the safe zone (40ms?).
