Any easier way to get Savage Aim / Might Materia?

So is there any better way to get savage aim / might materia? I am working on my relic and I am on tier 4 for DET (tier 2 on CRIT) and they run on average 400-500k each. If it was 100% success rate it wouldn't bother me so much. But the thought of tossing 400k into the crapper on a 60% success rate kind of bothers me. I don't have a mess of gil so that would eat up like 1/6 of my savings.

Any advice would help. I know some people spirit bond their own stuff, but isn't that terribly time consuming?

spiritbonding isn't too bad. You can spiritbond a full set of 11 pieces in about 40 minutes.
If you're wearing crafter sets from Mor Dhona on all of your left side, that's a decent chunk of money even if you don't get IVs all the time. then the right side has chance to give you what you need.. But even if you don't, you can always sell it for money.

Besides, you're talking about a relic... the entire thing is "terribly time consuming"

Wont spirit bonding with crafting gear on give you crafting materia?

I think they might be suggesting spiritbonding for crafting materia, which you could sell for a lot to buy the materia you want... but I could be reading too much into it. That's not a bad idea though, doing that to get crafting or gathering material, sell those and buy the ones you want rather than leave it up to chance.

i'd have to look into how much gathering materia sells for on my server. I have miner and botanist to 50 so I could potentially do that. Crafting seems like it would cost more gil as crafting that much would eat up a lot of shards/crystals.

Mathematically speaking, last time I checked (and the math does keep changing), crafter materia was worth double the value of DoM/DoW materia on average. This was using a 5% yield rate for IV materia from i45-i47 items (which could be right or could be wrong, but my data does suggest it). This means that you can make double the money with crafter materia, and then sell them and buy the DoW/DoM materia that you want. Prices change though, so you should do the math yourself.

The problem with DoM/DoW items is that half the time, you get garbage that's totally worthless. You seem to have equal chance to get any valid materia that the item can turn into. Here are the breakdowns. If any of these are wrong, please please please correct me!

Assuming the above are correct, 6/14ths of the DoM and DoW materia are elemental and worthless. 3/14ths are main stats that are either useless to your class, or start out capped on all gear except accessories. That leaves 5/14ths of worthwhile materia, essentially 1/3rd. Assume I'm right and there's a 5% chance to get a grade IV materia from a level 45 item (the best you can do if you're doing open-world farming). Your chance to get a grade IV Savage Might materia from a given gear piece is 1.4%. On average, you'd have to meld 6-7 sets of 11 items to get each materia, and for relic (assuming you're not a PLD), you need 8 IVs if none break. On average, you need 11-12. That's about 100 sets of gear you'd have to SB, and the SB items aren't free.


Alternatively, if you are a legendary FSH and a maxed out CUL desynther, you can get Savage Might IVs from desynthing Nepto Dragons (the ultimate fish). You can also get Savage Aim IVs from desynthing Helicoprions. Both of those fish are Legendary Fish (the tier above Big Fish) and thus untradeable.

All of the prices listed the average on my server for the last couple of weeks, results will vary from server to server:

Spirit Bonding i70 DoM accessories will grant you about 50% at a tier 4 materia these days.
I currently craft about 2 full right side sets for about 200K-250K mats but the yields from these 10 items has been on the order of the follow.
4-6 tier 4 and about 8 of the materia of the following group: Savage Aim, Savage Might, Heaven's Eye and Quicktouge
Each of these un-needed Tier 4s (Heaven's Eye and Quicktounge) sell for between 220K - 450K on my server. Thus, I make about 800K per round from this.

Another option is SB i35-37 stuff, it bonds really fast and the DoW materia is Tier 2. which happens to be in shorter supply. Thus, selling for 40K-50K each, while tier 3 sells for under 10K.
The speed of bond of tier 2 can easily generate you about a million gil per day with an average play time of say 3 or 4 hours.
You do not even need to spend time crafting these items, just buy from vendors, the 20% SB speed decrease is more than offset by not crafting.

Correct, there are a couple reasons for spiritbonding crafting gear.

1. You don't have to make them, they're already readily available by vendor in Mor Dhona. Some of the combat gears don't go up to the i45 requirement for tier IV materia, but crafting ones do (except for the headgear, but cobalt preserves are i45 so you can use that one for the head).

2. Their prices are more consistent. Unless you keep getting Cunning (CP). Which you will from time to time, but at least you have 66% to land on a decent profit.


Also, you seem to be under the impression of spiritbonding the gathering gear AS a gatherer. That is not what I'm suggesting.. I'm suggesting you wear the gear as a combat class and just kill things to get it done.

OR.. If you already have a Miner/Botanist.. You could still make decent change by gathering things and selling them.. Although I don't know the situation of your server's market to say what kind of money you'd make. spiritbonding is faster overall imo.

Always SB i45-47 gear as a combat class in Urth's Font (the open world location at the end of Urth's Gift, not the trial!). You only need your i100+ weapon and the rest can safely be all SB gear. WHM works best, but any class works. Get in a party - there's a penalty for being in a party vs being alone (I think I heard 40%?), but the penalty only applies once regardless of your party size. So, just you and a chocobo: -40%. You and seven other PCs: -40%. The speed increase from multiple people makes up for the penalty very fast. Also, you do NOT have to attack an enemy for it to count, you just have to be within a certain distance when a party member kills it. When my wife and I SB grade 1/2 materia with i15 items in East Shroud, we sometimes have one person stay in the djigga area and the other go kill boars/treants/bats just outside, and we both get SB from the other.


Interesting idea to focus on the grade 2 tier. That would require i30-i40 items, and the ideal place to SB is somewhere with lots of enemies who are level 40-50. Where do you SB that stuff? I mean, if you go with i40 items, Urth's Font is still the best, but with i30 items, the water elementals are too high level for max speed. You'd need something more like level 40. Hmm...

Raptors for raptor sinew + leathers. it's in one of the shrouds, I think South? there's a good spot to farm Raptors in the level 35-37 range.
Or you could also farm fleece since the mobs are in similar level range.


When Urth's font is occupied, I sometimes go off to Mor Dhona and farm Hippogryphs for the hippo leathers also. Kill 2 birds with one stone so to speak.
