Make Chocobo Reflect more Useful

My chocobo was unfortunate enough to learn Chocobo Reflect. I thought: "Oh this will help me deflect Gravity and other harmful effects." It doesn't...

I thought that when the little chick appeared next to your chocobos name during races signaled the prime point to use Chocobo reflect. Well.. during the countless races I did do this.. but the debuff was never reflected.

Am I doing something wrong? Please don't tell me the effect has to be active before the little chocobo chick appears; whats the point of the chick then?

Yes, you are doing something wrong. Choco Reflect works a vaccine; it prevents the symptoms from happening in the first place, but if you are already sick, then the vaccine is worthless. Using Choco Reflect after you're already hit with a debuff is just wasting the ability. You need to check what the next item box has in its cycle and determine whether or not to use the ability if the people behind you grab certain items. Lastly, Choco Reflect blocks Frenzied and Heavy, but it has no effect on attacks that are AOE.

Oh I know it has no use on AoE's. But I think it should be made to be more useful in that if the Chocobo Chick shows up next to your birds name you have a short time to activate Chocobo Reflect.

It would make Choco Reflect a bit OP if it worked like that. Reflect is supposed to be a preventive measure before something bad happens. If it could stop Frenzy as the animation plays, then it would make having Choco Calm useless and redundant.

As unfortunate as it is to say, this is more or less what it is. Reflect, like most abilities/items, are situational. Reflect is absolutely beautiful when you use it during a time that you're neck and neck with one or more racers after an item (and you saw what attack items were there). Chances are, you don't want to be hit with a Heavy when you're that close to each other, so you'd most likely pop it during that situation. Reflect requires a lot of assumption and learning your opponents habits, as it's basically meant to help you give you that edge when attack items are in play (whether it be an item got reflected to your competition or it bought you time to avoid being attacked).
