If players choose to switch to one of the new jobs, they'll need to raise it from level one.

Good can't wait to enjoy ffxiv ARR from level 1 :)
This was already posted (and proved false when a direct question asking for specifics was asked) in the other thread. They will not start at level 1.
It's Polygon. That's about as trustworthy as my dad's brother's daughter's friend who works at Nintendo.
Or maybe, just maybe, Polygon is mistranslating what he is saying in their write up? We have direct translations from him saying the complete opposite sooo..... Can a Dev or something chime in before this spawns too many more threads every time an article saying something contradictory comes out?
In another interview it was stated something like "I'm not sure what level it'll be, but it definitely won't be level 1".
However, that could also mean that in order to unlock the quest to unlock the job, you have to be like level 30 or so.
However, in another interview it was stated something like "Heavensward will be full of level 51-60 areas, and naturally a level 1 character won't be able to progress through that".
I'm not sure how they're going to do it, but I wouldn't believe in anything yet.
