Tanking with Titan

I realize this is a super-rare occurrence for Summoners, but I've had cases in Low-Level Roulette where

a) I or Garuda have derped and unintentionally pulled a mob that the party decided to pass by. For the record, I DO run to the tank with the mob tailing me, until the moment when or if the tank tries to take the mob off me.

b) Tank drops and we waste time twiddling thumbs until I ask if I should get Titan out.

In situation a, I certainly appreciate the tanks that are generous enough to take the mob off of me even though the party had no intention of wasting even more time with it to start with. But I've had one instance where the tank just wouldn't. I'm going to give him the benefit here and say he just tunnel-visioned, considering he finally picked it up around half-health, but I made a decision to Swiftcast Titan out until he got him.

In situation b, well, I made the offer and realized I really just could not control Titan real well. I realize Titan certainly doesn't beat having an actual TANK show up, but I just thought it'd beat sitting around... right?

Anyway, is there any advice I could get regarding pulling mobs, having him at least hold more than one the best he can, and not pulling every other mob in the area in the process? OR, am I actually better off dance-spamming with the others until a tank shows up or the duty abandons? And likewise, what advice could I get on the first situation?

I take full advantage of any excuse to use Titan (& Ifrit) :).

I even used him in tandem with an actual, but fairly new, tank in story Haukke Manor to help hold onto some enemies and reduce the punishment s/he was taking. Titan-egi is niche but he can be really useful sometimes.

While it may not be IDEAL, Titan can definitely be an ok tank....at least in lower level content. I remember a time when I had threes friends of mine run Sunken Temple with just the four of us (SMN, MNK, DRG, SCH) and I had Titan tank the whole thing. It wasn't perfect, but he got the job done and we had plenty of laughs. Lot's of "Look at little Titan go!" were heard over Skype that night. :D

Last week I used Titan to run through Lost City of Amdapour after our tank D/C'd during the first boss fight. With the healer focusing on keeping him alive and me helping a bit with sustain, we cleared it fairly easily. Fun anecdote to tell the grandkids one day lol.

Titan tank is great imo.

I would suggest letting the DPS know to give him a sec to generate aggro.

Rouse + Spur then pull and use the AOE skill ( cant remember the name).

I used to have a hard time making Titan hold anything, even when he runs up, mobs still come to you which is really annoying (and, imo, needs to be fixed). But the best thing you can do is take him off Sic. Even at level 50, by letting him hit something 3-5 times with just his attack skill will give him a fair amount of aggro. If there's more than 1 thing, you'll obviously need to switch targets and manually make him AoE. I found it much more successful if you manually tanked with him, rather than letting him run his own course.

I've tanked Copperbell and the Manor with Titan and both times went fairly smoothy, though my DPS was low because I had to keep ordering Titan around. But sometimes sacrifices need to be made for the party.

Totally agree, I mean, how do the mobs even know I'm the one controlling chicken nugget-egi? Summoners are supposed to be rare, no-one has ever met one rare.

It must be the damn horn, it's so suspicious looking. Never trust Uneicorn people.

Titan should have provoke so it would be useful if tank die. But you can not get so fast aggro if tank die and u start summon titan after that.

It would be nice, but actual tanks still neeed to have an edge on a pet.
