Registration code invalid error?

Hi there. I have a friend who owns this game for PC and is trying to play it on Ps3. He's bought 2 brand new shrink wrapped copies of the Ps3 version and both of their registration codes come up with an "invalid" error. I've personally gone over to his place and gone through all the steps I know to register the game, and none of it is working. We've tried contacting Square but Square refuses to deal with it and Sony is just saying the codes aren't valid codes.

I'm well aware that there are the 2 different codes, the one for registering on the Square site and one for PSN. We're definitely using the PSN codes, they're just not working. Does anyone know what could be going wrong here? There has to be some reason why neither game's code is functioning.
