Steps:
I just returned to the game after not playing since November 2014. When I click on Gysahl Greens to summon her, I get the message "Unable to use. Companion not yet acquired." The companion screen clearly shows she exists with the name Lilli that I gave her before my hiatus. I didn't stable her but checked anyway and verified when I got the message that I haven't learned Chocobo raising.
