Chocobo retiring and covering is bugged.

"To arrange a coupling, you must be in possession of at least one retired chocobo registration form, which can be obtained by retiring a rank 40 or higher race chocobo."

That quote is straight from the patch notes. I went and retired my newly attained R40 chocobo in goal of trying covering. I did not get any "retired chocobo registration form" whatsoever from the npc, my choco just walked away and I lost him completely. I made a bug report about this in-game also, but haven't got a reply yet and I don't know if I will since the bug report form says "Please note that we are unable to provide individual responses to reports". So I came here and made this thread about it hoping to get a reply from a GM.

Can I please have my racing chocobo back? :/

No you missed the point. That npc does not sell "Retired chocobo registration form". She only sells the covering manuals. The line I quoted states that you will obtain a "Retired chocobo registration form" once you retire your R40 or above chocobo, which I did and I got no such form from the npc which is a bug. With the report you should be able to arrange a coupling, but I can't since I never got it.

I have this same problem.

My name is Cyrus Knight and my server is on Behemoth.

I trained my chocobo to 41 to be safe and still lost my chocobo after retiring it. I also submitted a bug report and noticed the same text saying they probably won't respond. This also means my racing has been completely cut off.

After carefully reading it back over i see that it might've been rank not rating. Which is very confusing in general to have both for something that could've easily been the same. So I lose my chocobo due to a confusing oversight on words. So I basically have to start from ground zero as it's unlikely i'll get my chocobo back. The rating and ranking system should've been the same from the get-go there's little to no reason to have them separate. This is just irritating in the biggest way now.

Did you do the quest for chocobo covering beforehand?

Yes, the same happened to me actually, I mixed up the "Rank" and "Rating" as well. During the whole time "levelling" I was focused on the "Rating" which let me participate in different competitions, which also brainwashed me and led me to believe that my chocobo is rank 40 when I can participate in those matches that need "level" (rating) 40 or higher. This needs to be changed, I knew I wasn't the only one with this problem. I sent a GM call on this matter again and they said they can't return lost chocobos (finally a gm actually said that after wasting 3 hours more on getting automated replies). I felt bummed out because this is SE's game devs fault for making it hard to understand, not the players fault.

Even the NPC who does the retiring should say exactly this: "YOUR CHOCOBO is NOT rank 40 and it cannot be covered, do you still want to retire your chocobo and it is lost forever?" "yes/no". When now it just says "Rank 40 or below chocobos can't be retired and they will become a property of the gold saucer" which is a GENERAL message stating that the chocobo needs to be rank 40, but doesn't exactly comment about your chocobo at all, because me and you were sure in our own observations that our chocobos indeed "were" R40 to do it. This only happened because of a poorly designed game feature. The other thing I don't understand is that why do you have to do this through retiring anyways? Can't you just get the option to breed him without having to lose him first??? What's up with that anyways? That's stupid.

Also there should never ever be an option to lose your racing chocobo completely in the first place in a game like this. SE should have learned that players are DUMB! Even I have blond moments sometimes like these and they should take care of that before they even release these features. Can you imagine a player who knows little about English and has a hard time understanding these? When even we who speak fluent English or speak it as their native tongue have difficulty understanding these.

In my opinion, we should get our chocobos back. They CAN do this, they just don't want to because it's a lot of hassle (I know this for a fact that anything is possible when regarding a game like this, so I don't buy it for one second that there's nothing they can do about this). I can understand the "special talents etc" that you might have put to your chocobo if the data isnt stored anywhere, I had none, except for the one I got at rank 10 which was resistance to enfeebling abilities. This is because even if the data is not saved on the particular chocobos, they could still return a preset rank 30 chocobo without any talents and a preset name. I'd be happy if I could just get a chocobo rank 30 back with a preset name I could change even without any talents whatsoever. It's the levelling that annoyed me, because I spent 8 hours of my day doing that and I feel really irritated about it too.

Can't you get a new one at the place you originally got your first chocobo? (The name eludes me a moment)
I've heard you can get the mating partner for your retired chocobo there. Perhaps you can also get a new one there? (I'm just guessing here)

No.. the problem is, if you read any of the things above, were that we both mistook our racing chocobos as rank 40 racing chocobos when in reality they had a rating that was over 40. Which then led to the chocobos being lost forever (My long reply above explains this clearly what happened) Yeah you can buy a new chocobo from the npc next to Katering in Central Shroud, but you have to start over from rank 1 again.. so the answer to your question is, no you can't mate the chocobo if it was retired before it's actual RANK (not rating) was over 40.

This below is the real problem with the 2 different terms Rank and Rating:

Edit: This still is a serious problem and it should be fixed to prevent any other people from understanding it like we did.

No, clearly the issue lies with the people who misread the RANK and RATING. Don't turn around and blame something else just because you can't comprehend the two words. YOU are at fault here for not reading, NOT the game. Take credit where credit is due man.

Also, it makes perfect sense why you can't mate a racing chocobo. Don't like the stats your baby gets, remate until you're happy! Yea, I can see the exploits now with that. At least with a retired chocobo you not only are forced to, I dunno, WORK for your stats, before you go and attempt the RNG involved in mating your chocobos, but there's also no going back and attempting a hundred times till you get exactly what you want.

Dude, you messed up, lost your chocobo, and now you want to cry about it to someone that has better things to do than fix your mistake. I know I'm being rude here, but your attitude is toxic and a prime example of a someone who messed up and refuses to take his own blame for the matter.

Well you're damn right you're being rude, no offence, but I understand what you mean. I know it was my fault for not doing it carefully enough, I'm very well aware of that, but the problem which ultimately led to this is also the NPC who gives out a _general_ message stating that "Chocobos that are under R40 can't be retired" when me and the other guy and probably many others understood that once it hits rating 40 it can be covered. This had the perfect reason that the rating is displayed as a requirement/modificator for the races when you join them and not the RANK of the chocobo itself, which led us thinking that it is rank 40 now when it actually wasn't, so you're missing that point. However the NPC should say clearly that "YOUR chocobo is not Rank 40 and is not egilible for covering, do you still want to retire him yes/no?" That would have solved the problem and make us realize that we thought about it wrong.

The other point was that retiring the chocobo should be a completely different action and not required to cover a chocobo in the first place, because there are other players with less language skills than we do and they'll just end up losing their chocobos. These 2 game methods should not have been combined at all. Covering a chocobo is one thing and retiring is one. That and the NPC's message are the problem here, it's elementary game development, which in this case SE failed in, not the player. You can't blame the player for playing the game, even if it was our mistake it still had a reason why it happened.

I know that I have dumb moments and it'd have been perfectly fine if I was alone with this and the only one who thought about it that way, but now that the guy who replied earlier that the same happened to him, proves that I wasn't the only one with this problem and if you take a note that millions of players play this game I'm sure that there are many others who had this happen to them as well and probably will if the npc guidance and game play methods in this matter aren't fixed.
