Wired Xbox 360 controller and random mapping

Hi there, forum.

Lately I've been having a strange problem with my Xbox 360 controller and FF14.
A couple of days ago I went to farm crystals, went to character configuration and switched to the controller setup like normal, but for some reason the buttons are now seemingly randomly mapped. Not the hotbars mind you, it's as if the game is just reading the controller input wrongly. Left analog stick no longer controls the camera, and instead makes my character run forward/backward if I push it left/right, or walk forward/backward it I push it in those directions. It's happened before a few times, but back then it would be fixed after simply restarting the game.
Not this time though, I've restarted the game, tried a different USB port, and reinstalled the driver for the controller, but none of this has gotten it back to normal.

The controller is just a normal Microsoft controller for the 360. Nothing fancy from Razer or Madcatz or the like.

Has anyone else experienced this, or have an idea how to fix it ? It only happens in FF14, there are no problems in any other games. :/
