Some Basic Questions
Evening guys,
So I have a few basic questions about this game. I'm still fairly new, just hit level 30 for Gladiator and now I'm working on CNJ to level 15.
First question is what do turns mean? I see people talking about turn 5 or turn 9 on bosses? Not sure what that means.
Second, how do you level up your gear? I see gear has item levels. Do you craft gear for them to gain levels? or are they all drops from bosses?
Third, As a Gladiator should I be leveling up CNJ? Someone told me to get it to 15 to be a PLD.
Forth, How do I make money besides quests? I only have 25k atm and honestly haven't had any use for money since all my gear has come from quests or drops.
a
Fifth, How do I participate in hunts? What are hunts? I see people give location for example 24x 17y, do you people put those coords into somewhere and auto telly there? or do they just know by heart where that location is?

That's good that you ask these questions. I love answering them.
First Question: Turn 5 and Turn 9 refer to the first and second coil of Bahamut. A level 50 set of raids that have very difficult bosses. So if people refer to T5 or T9, this is what they are referring to.
Second Question: Your gear cannot be leveled up, your gear is stuck at that level and it is just a way to compare what items are better. For Example, Item level 60 (i60) gear is not as good as i90 gear. ^^
Third: Yes. In order to gain certain skills required to be a good Paladin, you must get your Conjurer to level 15.
Fourth: You can spiritbond your equipment and sell the materia that you make from that, you can do the story quests and naturally get lots of gil. Doing every dungeon atleast once requires you to do a quest to unlock them which will give you gil.
Fifth: Hunts, you can participate in by joining some linkshells specifically for looking for these high level monsters. These monsters are all level 50 so unless you are a Disciple of Magic, you will likely die instantly from one of the monsters normal attacks. A coordinated effort of atleast 8 skilled level 50s are required to beat them. These people do not know by heart as although each monster can only be in one area. Where they can be in that area changes at random.

A little clarification on item levels. Basically, gear has two levels: The level you can equip it at, and the effective level it is for stat purposes. Up until level 50, these levels are usually the same, but you'll notice dungeon drops (Or items crafted from "damaged" dungeon drops) have a slightly higher item level. For example, I may have an item I can equip at level 15, but it functions like a level 17 item. Next, once you hit level 50 all further progression is from getting better gear. The item levels on gear reflect their power, and higher item level gear comes from harder content.

Also, the coords are on the map, if you open your map you can see the coords in the corner; just move your cursor around and it'll tell you what coords that particular location is. Also, if their shout has a little [>] symbol, you can click on it and a flag will appear on the map at the coords they gave.

You may want to level up as a marauder too to gain some useful skills as a paladin.
