Kirin - The Journey

Starting in 2.5, me and a few friends started pony farming with high hopes for the increased drop rates. What started as a simple Garuda farm quickly turned into a full on pony farming static. Before this static formed I was curious to just how much the drop rates increased and searched around for info. A few other players have logged what their drop rates on specific primals have been and what a guesstimated drop rate could be, this inspired me to keep a log on my kills as well.

As of last night, I obtained our groups first Kirin mount and thought the info I collected in obtaining him was worth sharing for people trying to do the same.

5/8 people in my static (including myself) had 0 ponies starting in 2.5 with the others having 1 each. To date this is our current record and is going to increase to all of us have Kirin.

Garuda - 50 kills / 7 Xanthos
Titan - 71 kill / 4 Gullfaxi
Ifrit - 59 kills / 3 Aithon
Leviathan - 50 kills / 5 Enbarr
Ramuh - 43 kills / 5 Markab
Shiva - 39 kills / 4 Boreas
Nightmares obtained - 6

Total Primals Slain = 312
Total Mounts Obtained = 34

Everyone in the group has 2 or more mounts with 1 other player only 1 mount away from Kirin as well. Our group has only been doing this hour and a half, 2 hours a night for the past couple weeks.

that's awesome. i wish i could find a 'static' pony farm group that helps so much. i just have to join pony farm groups on pf and watch every single pony go to someone else bc rng in this game hates me qq. i dont even want to say how many times ive farmed garuda. im losing hope for just ONE pony much less kirin!

While I am super happy for you to have finally gotten your Kirin mount, looking at your stats makes me cringe. That drop rate is still so low given some of those fights. I still find Titan EX and Ifrit EX a pain and having to do either as many times as you did for as few ponies as you saw would be out of the question.

I'm happy to see that as the recent primals happened that the drop rate appeared to be better but yeah, I feel ya.

So congrats but I hope the mounts get a boost again.

I totally know the feeling. Farmed Levi for the harpoon and saw the mount drop about 4 times over about 15 successful runs, and who did it all go to? The first timers. Must be nice to be lucky and not be stuck in the bottom shit hole of RNGesus' bathroom toilet. Kirin mount is never gonna happen for me. Not even hope can pull me through.

Wish I knew 7 other people on my server that would want to farm ponies.

Man, all of this work for a mount that isn't even a chocobo. Frankly anyone that rides anything but a chocobo should hand in their Final Fantasy cards right now.

We've been riding chocobos for over 14 games (not including sequels), I think we're entitled to want to ride something else.

Congrats on your Kirin. I have dabbled in the idea of a static, but it fell apart for a number of reasons:

* People weren't interested in a full package - most people who expressed interest in a static usually had at least 1 mount (Titan's being the most common on my server), and they did not feel like running Titan for 7 other people to get their mount at one point. Or they would, but would prefer it to be last for pretty obvious reasons (so that they can try to come up with excuses for not turning up). Also, Titan being Titan would have warded off many I felt.
* Doing Garuda for 2 hours a night for 3 days - we only saw about 3 whistles. Naturally, some of them became demotivated.

I myself am at 4/7 - missing Xanthos (Garuda), Aithon (Ifrit), and Markab (Ramuh).

So far, counting my own runs, I've killed 215 Primals in total, and saw a total of 36 whistles.

The worst is joining a pony "farm" party only to have people mess up causing a wipe, the pony doesn't even drop when you do clear it, and people drop party after one run. That's about where I'm at.
