Decoy; Is it worth it?

I have heard from many players many different responses and I just wanna get a general idea from people on here.

My archer isn't high enough level yet but I am almost there so I am curious. Is it kinda like Utsusemi? Or is it an actual clone that you trick the mob with? The ability would seem useless if your decoy doesn't attract hate off of you.

What do you guys think?

Decoy is nice, but it has a few problems...

1: It requires TP to use
2: Its not a 100% protection...its more like FFXI blink than utsusemi.
3: It has a pretty long recast.
4: It will only hold 1~2 ranged attacks or nukes.

So, in short, its a good action for when you passing thru aggressive monsters, where you won't really be in melee range and won't take many attacks (like when going to Mor Dhona from Black Shroud).

Thanks for the clear up. But is it like an actual like clone that walks out (like the decoy move in Halo for isntance) or is it just "shadows"?

Once you use it, a blurred smoke appears around you and then fades - that's it.

I guess that's kind of cool lol. I'll just have to wait and see. Thanks everyone :)

Too bad we can't do some Naruto-like clonage, like Kagetora does during campaign in FFXI =P

The ability would be actually worth a damn if we could use it without TP >.> hit 36 today and I was highly disappointed. This is a great ability for an opening attack, since it can only absorb ranged and magic attacks. It isn't any good if you use it after you've already pulled lol.

Wrong on a few counts.

It is 100%. It is a single-shadow Utsusemi against normal ranged attacks, magic spells, and some specific TP moves that are considered "ranged". It is great to use alongside Diversion, which is the same but applies to normal melee attacks and melee TP attacks.

It absorbs 1 ranged or magic attack that would have hit you during the 60 seconds that the buff stays on. It will absorb AOE WS as well from my experience.

I know for a fact it absorbs Batraal's 2 AOEs.
