Quick Thoughts on the Retainer System

The last patch which allowed more retainers to be called in the Ul'dah Market Wards, I feel, didn't really fix anything. The same market wards are still always full.

As a possible solution, I think each player should only be allowed to have one retainer up per city. That is, I can't call two retainers in Ul'dah. But I CAN call one retainer in Ul'dah, and the other in either Gridania or Limsa Lomisa. This way, I believe more space will be made available for people to call retainers in Ul'dah, and I also believe it would force the market areas in the other cities to become more popular, and therefore, more utilized.

I don't know if this would actually work, as it is just an opinion. And I understand it may not be popular with those who like to use both retainers in Ul'dah... but imagine if it was possible to get the same level of sales in any city, not just Ul'dah.

Lastly, I'd like to see a day when we can have access to more retainers. I craft a lot on all disciplines, and space runs out very fast, especially when you have to have gear/tools for each skill.

Please, let me know how you feel about this. All thoughts, for or against, are welcome; I'd really like to hear what everyone thinks. (sorry if this is a repeat topic, I tried to search and couldn't find anything.)

I understand your frustration, but I kind of like the convenience of having to search only one city's MW to find whatever I need. So I'd prefer that they keep expanding the MW's capacity. I'm not sure how it's going to work when server populations blow up at PS3 release though. MW's are going to have to be huuuuge.

and if i need craft something, i must ports to other city for my materials from other retainer?.. =)

I totally understand what you mean, and I agree with you with the way things work right now... but why does our retainer system, our only market system (not including player character bazaar), have to be our only storage system as well? And even if you do keep both your retainers in one city, you still have to make that the city you always return to for crafting.

Personally, I can't always craft everything in the same city, due to guild access. The way I would do it, if I had a retainer in Gridania, would could keep leathercraft and carpentry materials on that one. For the retainer I keep in Ul'dah, alchemy and goldsmithing materials there.

i don't completely disagree with the premise around your idea, but don't see it being able to work on a long term basis.

the only reason i say this is you will not go to multiple cities on a daily basis. that means if i am concentrating on classes in uldah then i would not be going to limsa nor grid at that time. that would lead to me only taking care of one retainer during the time i am there. i usually go to the city that houses the guild of the class i am working on at that time. i usually don't leave that city for days at a time.
