Wind Shards
This is not a rant.
Well just a little because i'm upset.
What happened: I spent 45 minutes farming wind shards. Watching every drop for them. I got two drops in fourty five minutes. Total is about 4 shards. I had one before. I look in despair and i have seventeen.
I always seem to have seventeen wind shards when i look at them. Please look into the matter.
Was farming them killing bird type enemies and chopping at trees. I just know those two things drop them having seen it happen. I should be able to farm wind shards for crafting doing this.

Fishing and Botany both drop tons of shards.
Check your point allotment and make sure your resistance/affinity for Wind is much higher than the other elements.

Shards stop dropping if the monster is too low in rank compared to your own. This is why all those bots fighting just outside of town are new characters on low rank classes that can farm shards on low rank mobs constantly. Also if you're leeching off another player trying to multiply shard drops, I think a character no longer receives any shards if they did not participate in battle post 1.18. Maybe the monsters you were fighting were too low in rank to drop shards for you or your party and only had a few spawns barely high enough to drop the 4 you saw.
If you really want wind shards, start by raising your wind element attribute to be higher then the others. This will increase your rate of wind shards while gathering at least. Then raise alchemy because the skills learned and the shards made are what allows you to craft properly in the long run.
Also I think the monster you are referring to is the Dodo monster which is an earth attribute monster. A wind type monster would have a chance at dropping a total of 6 wind shards per kill. Each monster class has a few types of shards/crystals that drop normally and that does not change.
Looking at your ranks, if you really want to farm the wind shards still, go after the bee/fly swarm type monsters in either west of Camp Bloodshore (through the tunnel) or north of Cedarwood if you can handle those as well. They are non-aggressive with no special attacks and have very low HP and are wind attribute monsters. This was the optimal choice of monster for RMT to bot when farming wind shards until they started to bot alchemy which made farming this way unappealing.
Hopefully the advice helps but I really don't see any bug in your post...
