Multiple Classes
Hi There! I'm new to the game and am about to have a summoner. This requirs a lv30 ARC and 15 THM. All is right with the world. But, I want to make a healer too. Is it better to create a whole new character, or make this same character a conjurer? I can't figure it out!

This question has come up a lot as of late. It's all about how you want to play really, you could make another character to do other classes on, but the game is designed so you can play everything on one character.
The other thing to consider is you'll probably get a bit of gear for other classes while you go through dungeons and do leve's.
Starting a new class is as easy as turning up to the guild for the class you want to start, getting the weapon you want from them and equipping it.
Hope any of this helps and good luck with your summoner :)

I would recommend doing everything on the same character unless you have personal reasons to do differently. Like Dan noted, you may get untradeable gear later on that will help you level up alternate jobs, but there is also the fact that a lot of stuff in the game is gated by quests, some of these quests can be a bit tedious.
If you want to experience the story multiple times, more power to you, but it will be way faster to level up a second job (especially if it is a tanking or healing class) if you already unlocked the dungeons while leveling your previous class.
Also, right now you want to be a Summoner, and that, as you say, requires Arc and Thm, but you will really want to take that Thm all the way to 26 for Swiftcast, and you may also want to level Conjurer at minimum to 15 because you will get the odd benefit of leveling 2 jobs simultaneously, since Arc is the only class that can equip two different job crystals (Summoner and Scholar, a healer job.)
...on top of that, the White Mage job requires you to be Arc 15 anyways, so unless you want to level that again with a second character, you may as well do it all with the one character.
Ultimately it is up to you, but it will be way more convenient to do it all with a single character.

While MMO instinct is to do different things on different characters, realistically you are much better off sticking to a single character. You aren't capped in terms of the total level you can achieve with all of your jobs - in other words, you can reach 50 with all battle classes, crafters, and gatherers. And because of cross-classing skills and much gear being useable by multiple classes, you will even be able to benefit from having others levelled.
Plus, levelling up a battle class that isn't your highest level one gets a +50% EXP boost, so...

Best thing to do is on one character unless you really want to play two different races.
I have several characters, all different races, only 2 have 50s, I only play this one and will fantasia (the race changing potion you can aquire 1 free during sub or for 10$ each in MOGSTATION) if I really want to switch classes.
My fiancee has three characters, 2 with 50s, his main is not the one who is crafting; which he has lamented several times.
Best to just do it all on one!

TL;DR - unless you want to play different races/gender, or want to hide from your friends, there's no reason to play multiple characters.
You only really need one character, because this game is designed so that your character class/job is defined by the weapon you use. You'll need to enroll with the relevant class guild (i.e. do its quests) to be able to hold the weapon, but this game is based on the assumption that you have multiple classes.
So just go enroll at the Conjurer guild and you will be a conjurer when you equip a staff. Many people are already level 50 in all classes/jobs.
Also note, that at Lv.30 Arcanist, not only do you get to become a Summoner, you will also get to become a Scholar, which is also a healer. The Scholar job quest is by the counter in the same Arcanist guild room. The Arcanist is the only class in this game that will open up 2 jobs at the same time.

As other people said, it's best to have them on the same character. And usually there are cross-class skills you nearly need at higher level.
For example a tank will need stoneskin which is conjurer 34, a healer will need swiftcast (THM 24 I think), the BLM will need quelling strikes from Archer, eye for an eye is very good for healers, mantra for melée DPS, etc. Most times there is a cross-class skill you need from a class you still haven't leveled up yet.

As everyone else has said, you can do everything with 1 character and it would be smart to learn conjurung for your character. I personally enjoy creating alts to try different looks/races/genders and have a singular focus for each alt for their class but will eventually level them all to 50. Everyone finds their fun different ways in this game.

One other thing I thought I'd mention is, although I've never done it myself, I know a lot of people create alts to go on different servers.
Maybe to visit friends or just see what other worlds are like. I know it's nothing to do with your original question OP, but it's another use for alts :)
