Specifically starting in phase 3. What my group has done is after the first heavensfall, we LB3 the boss and first dragon and dps like mad to avoid another dragon (usually works) But that leaves us with no LB 3 for the whm in case of a wipe.
Is that method pretty standard now or what?
With 15% echo most times people will just burn the add (LB3 is kind of extraneous on it) and then they will melee LB Nael right after 2nd heavensfall to push the phase.
If you need to have lb3 for healer in case of a wipe you probably aren't going to clear.
We've been doing the single tank method, two healers, five DPS.
During that phase, we generally have 2 DPS stay on the boss, and then the other three DPS burn down the add. We usuallly don't even get a second add that way, and we still have LB3 saved up.

When just learning a fight, sometimes it can be helpful to save LB for healers just so they can res and get the group more exp to hopefully prevent a few more wipes, but in T9 avoiding that second add and third heavensfall is much more important as both of those are likely to cause a wipe anyway.
What you're doing is standard (at least it used to be, haven't been in since 15% echo). If you can make it one full (or even half) rotation in the last phase, meaning elemental wheel, iron chariot, supernova x3, thermionic, dive bomb, meteor stream/lunar dynamo, then you'll probably find that the last phase is actually easier than the first few. It's just a matter of learning the pattern and its very easily recoverable even without LB3. There's a lot of down time during and after the dive bomb phase to res people and very little raid wide damage going out so as long as the tank and a healer stay up (assuming you're not smack in the middle of an elemental wheel part), then you can make it through. This phase is not a dps check so focus on mechanics first and handle those, you'll get it. My group was able to recover from a misplaced dive bomb that killed 5 people thanks to some hard cast raises and a well timed hallowed.
